...last time we saw The Crue, he didn't speak to me for two days...something about my over zealous attempt to get Nikki Sixx to look at me!! Oops!

LMAO!!!!!! I wish I could go there, we'd have so much fun! I was just thinking to myself I better call and suck up to the guy who has my ticket!

When I bought my computer at Best Buy, they didn't have it in stock so they had to order it and said they'd call me when it came it. I waited until the day after the last day the guy said it would be in by and called them myself. The girl I spoke to couldn't find my info anywhere, then when she finally did she said they were out of them and there was only one available at the service center and I could have it directly shipped in about a week. I (calmly) asked her to look up if I could pick it up at another store. When she came back she said never mind, there was one left in stock, wasn't I lucky? But when I got there, there was actually a whole stack of them......ugh! Oh well, at least I got it.

1 day left of my suspension. This was a very fast 2 weeks. I would be lying if I said I was looking forward to going back to work Friday. Today I got most of my errands done. So, if you turned on the news today and saw footage of red-tagged houses in Glassell Park because the hillside is about to slide down on them, you saw my neighborhood  ! I woke up to helicopters and called the local news station to find out what was going on. They said 10 or so houses were sliding down the hillside at Mimosa and Ackerman. So, I types the street names into my handy Google maps (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=mimosa%20and%20ackerman%2C%2090065&ll=34.117981%2C-118.230010&spn=0.007248%2C0.019656) (thanks GD) and I says to myself, self, you should call the roomate and find out what he'd like saved, cause you live right down the street (Toland and 40th) and might be seeing, like, some mud soon.
What is going on? Train wreck suicide (or not) attempt a couple of weeks ago, actress falling out of the sky at rehearsal a week ago, roomate's cat put to sleep yesterday, mudslides down the street, I seem to have moved into a disaster-prone neighborhood. On the other hand, it all seems to be going on around me, and not to me. Even while everyone else's driving routines have been screwed up from the rain, my routes have been taking me around all the worst storm damage. Weird.
Well, time to go to bed, can't wait to see what tomorrow has in store  .

Sipping burbon - the coffee long gone, feeling giddy and fatalistic at the same time. All is quiet, but unnaturally so. There is grieving, and sickness, and simple exhaustion. My todo list still shakes its fist at me, and I raise my glass in its direction. The weekend will be here soon enough and the rains have let up, if only for a little while. Maybe then things will be back in my grasp...

Hmmm, but the niece is leaving the mountains to head east for Illinois- Chicagoland perhaps? Oh how I hope that would be true. Alas, I think she's headed for the cornfields just outside of town. The regrets and mourning that will come.

So I pour a little more burbon and feel a little less, numb, giddy, and impervious to the sadness around me. At rare times I can be an asshole, but I don't regret it. At least not now while I've burbon to sip.

Cheers to you, Tennessee Williams

I sort of went to another manager (who is a friend and feels guilty about the 2 weeks off) he had the Powers That Be close me for the rest of the day. My manager was pretty cool about the whole thing. The Union can't doo too much for me (I dug my own hole) but they are grieving the time frame of things so there is a 2% chance that I will be getting back pay for my 2 weeks. Oh well, now I will have to be a good drone and push for sales.

Your energy levels could be a little erratic, CHRISTIAN. One minute, you will be dancing on the table. The next minute, you could be curled up in a corner, fast asleep. Try to avoid energy stealers like caffeine and sugar. Eat more protein at breakfast and at lunch. You also might want to take frequent breaks throughout your day. Try not to maintain a constant, heavy pace. Your body might need to rest.

Sometimes it's hard to strike a balance between treasuring an heirloom and running a museum. I know my grandma would want me to use things, but I don't want to break or damage anything. And what if there's a fire? I have her wedding dress. And a doily her mom (my great-grandmother) made with an insert of my great-grandfather's wedding shirt. I miss my grandma.

Austrian Prince Pal Antal Esterhazy (1786-1866) was renowned for his extravagance. Roaming across Europe for decades in a constant state of vacation, he squandered his stupendous fortune. In one infamous stunt, he removed a priceless Titian painting from its frame and had it made into the lining for his coat. In bringing this to your attention, Aquarius, I don't mean to imply that you're as profligate as Esterhazy. But there is a way in which you're being as wasteful with one of your valuable assets as he was with his Titian. Fix this glitch, please.

Better not let NA know you're lining your jacket with priceless works of art- she'll think you've gone a little overboard on the Swank thing....:D

Which words? Curiosity, it burns! ;)

You're asking me to reveal the depths of my stupidity?

For some reason "perfidious" always slips my mind. It's simple enough. Just means full of deceit, and yet I never retain it. So I had to look up that one again .

"parvenus", which turns out to be "a person of obscure origin who has gained wealth, influence or celebrity."

"ultra posse nemo obligatur". Latin. That was fun, because I basically looked through my Oxford to figure out the definition myself. Came pretty close. I couldn't find "nemo". So basically I worked out that it meant "a service beyond what anyone is able to perform". Turns out "nemo" is "no one" not "anyone". And it really means "no one is obligated beyond what he is able to do"

I really, really want to study languages.

Those are just some examples, CP. I had to look up more, but they're simple words I really should have known.

wendybeth
02-27-2005, 06:49 PM
I'm fascinated by language- the history of, development, influences, everything. There was a great series on PBS years ago called the Story of English, which I loved so much I went out and bought the companion book.

We've been on a little semi-homemade vacation!

The kids were out of school Thursday and Friday for Rodeo Break! (Go ahead and laugh!) John had a week of vacation to take so we're ON VACATION!

Vegged around the house on Thursday, Friday we took the kids to Tombstone. It was a blast! They loved it. We watched "Tombstone" the night before so the kids would have something to go on...Kat and Bailey got cap guns which they wore in holsters on their hips all day...and practiced shooting the bad guys. Kat's guns are pink! So cute!
We watched gun fights, toured the Bird Cage, looked for ghosts, watched a trick riding show and ate ribs, which were pretty good. Kat and Bailey dressed up for an old timey photo..we actually got Kat in a frilly 1800's style dress, though she insisted on being a bank robber and had to hold a gun!

Saturday we went to the Pima Air and Space Museum. They have an amazing collection of historic airplanes and planes from modern age...if it had wings, it's in that mueseum. Even has two Air Force One planes...one was Kennedy's/Johnson's. Very cool!

Today we shopped! Kat is a shopaholic at heart. We've taken to calling her "Princess Shopalot"

Now I'm doing laundry..I didn't do any all weekend..like I was really on vacation...so I have tons! Eating my Berry Cobbler from Claim Jumper! Yummmm!

I'm fascinated by language- the history of, development, influences, everything. There was a great series on PBS years ago called the Story of English, which I loved so much I went out and bought the companion book.

Me, too. I wonder if I can rent that PBS series from Netflix.

Cool!

I'm relaxing with a nice glass of Shiraz, waiting for the dishwasher to finish so I can start cooking dinner. Had a nice productive day and I'm going to end it with a plate of pasta and a movie, if we can find anything interesting to watch. We have the Minority Report but I don't know that I'm in the mood for that. Oh well, we have a couple of hundred stations on cable. Surely something is on. Right?

I could get off my butt and write, but that would be effort and I am also sloth. Great big suckage. So I have these on-going issues with my teeth. Long story. Enough built up that at my age, and given my neurotic compulsion to floss multiple times daily, I sought a second opinion. Well, I got the full results of my second opinion. I *just* had a "full" check-up at the old dentist in January, and he filled three cavities but said everything else is wonderful. Results of the second opinion? three more cavities that need immediate attention (including another one in a tooth filled in January -- why wouldn't the old dentist have done both? Even *I* could see it on the xray.)

AND, the last crown I had done only 1 year ago, the one that I've complained hurts and doesn't feel right for a year and been told is all in my head, is actually an incredibly poorly fitted crown. It's so bad that the underlying tooth has been decaying (which was causing the pain and bleeding.) And so now not only do I have to get a new crown (which insurance won't pay for because the old one is only a year old) but FIRST I have to have oral surgery to do something called a "crown lengthening." I have no idea what that is, but it doesn't sound good.

I'm so angry. It's pain and inconvenience for me, and it drains our bank account. And I got suckered into feeling misplaced loyalty and it might cost me teeth. And as snotty as it sounds, having bad teeth makes me feel like I'm some smelly hick who never even looks at a toothbrush. I'm so angry at my (former) dentist. He kept telling me it was my fault and I believed him. Heck, last month he punched me in the arm and it shocked me so much I didn't even know what to do.

I need a freakin' spine already. Grrr.

Prudence, I'm so sorry you're having such a time! I know teeth issues are painful and expensive.

I know bad teeth run in my family. I'm the only one on my moms side to still have my real teeth. Everyone else was below 30 and (knock on wood) I'm headed into...um the next decade!

I hope they can get your crown all fixed up and the pain will end. I'm sure that alone will be a huge relief for you.

Hey Prudence,
I feel your pain. I've avoided the dentist for a couple of years. Last December, I finally found a dentist that I could trust. He laid out the course of action for me: two crowns, two extractions (followed by two painful and expensive implants) and a filling. Last month, I had the two extractions, which included a bone graft (yummy!). Next month, the crowns and filling. Late May, two implants. But after then, my mouth will be perfect. Right? Right?

Went in thinking I had a little cavity...NOPE you need a root canal. Ok..piece of cake and it really was. Very little pain...I couldn't see what all the fuss was about!

Back two months later..having the same problem on the other side...this time..not just one root canal...TWO. These were soooo painful...I'm scared to go to the dentist now for the first time in my life!

I'm thinking I'll have to see one of those..take the lovely pill..wake up when it's over dentists!

I guess this might or might not be the time, where I say I work for a dental office. I'm so sorry to hear about what you've gone through, Prudence. :( No dentist should make you feel that way. :( Do you live in California, BTW?

Anyhow, I'll probably send you a PM later, and I might bring this up with the doctor I work for.

Re: the root canals. Yeesh! Yeah, the fuss over root canals is the dying of the nerve, not so much the procedure itself. The procedure is basically designed to relieve the pressure of the gasses being built up by the bacteria being attracted by a nerve that's just called it quits, and to clear it out before things get too bad. The first RC you needed to do probably had a nerve that was already dead. The other side probably got caught a little sooner. Even though it was more painful, it is (I think) better to do it before the nerve completely dies, because you don't want to get a bad infection. Yeesh. OK -- done with too much dental information hour.

On a positive note: The teacher is being more proactive about us learning, even if it was slightly snitty at first (We wrote a program called Dummy... I think it was a thinly veiled insult at the class, though I fault her teaching skills...)

How is it possible that I already have every weekend and free Friday booked between now and mid-May? When will I find time to outline? When will I have time to finish sewing projects? Heck, when will I have a spare moment to myself?

But I now have a treadmill. I will now use the treadmill faithfully. It will make me slightly achy, but for my slight daily pennance will reward me with increased endurance, improved cardiovascular workings, less asthmatic wheezing, more energy to handle the booked weekends, and, last but definitely not least, smaller pants.

Okay, the treadmill doesn't exactly dispense pants (although the way I go through pants that would be superb), but it will allow me to aquire pants in smaller sizes that actually fit my entire butt.

That's so awesome. I joined 24 hr. Fitness just so I can do the same. Which is where I just came from & of course before bed I needed some LOT

After reading for the last 2+ hours, I went outside and had my final ciggie of the night. I played a bit with PoohDog (he is 1 hyper doggie). I will now watch a bit of the news, enjoy my Sprite and head for bed.

On a rather sad note, Sniff had another seizure Thursday afternoon. Nickolas had her out when it began. He brought her to me as it really hit. She ended up slicing my hand up pretty bad. A trip to urgent care and a tetnus shot later, things are ok. I am just glad that it was me she bit and not him. I honestly think she has a brain tumor...there is no other explanation. Twitch eats and inhabits the same space as Sniff, and she is a roly poly fur ball. I am prepping Nick for the future, he is handling it all very well (he, of course, didn't see the blood gushing from my hand).

 We've finally recovered from our weekend...no MA for us...it was Cheerleading Competition in Phoenix!

Kat's team won 1st place in her division! They were awesome! Didn't drop a single stunt! I was so proud, I cried! :D

Did I mention my mother-in-law was there with us this weekend...well the day of competition, I took Kat early. The rest of the group (hubby, Bailey, MIL, FIL) were going to be there by 12:00 when comp started...well...hubby calls at 11:45...they are just leaving hotel...20 minutes away. They end up getting stuck in traffic...and after several calls of "YOU"VE GOT TO HURRY!"...they literally walk in as her squad is about to take the floor! I was sooooo upset they wouldn't make it. John hadn't seen her at all this season..no practices or anything so he was excited to finally see her perform...then to have the MIL almost ruin it! I was livid!

But he made it!

We ended up spending the whole weekend in Phoenix..the kids had fun with the grandparents.

Now I'm decompressing...this cheerleader stuff is major stressful on the Mom's! Now she tells me she wants to give up Youth Football cheering and go competitive full-time! This means 3-4 practices a week..all year long!

If he truly loved you he would not be telling you that he still loves you. He would want you to move on and truly be a strong independant woman. He wouldn't play this "I still love you and maybe we'll be back together" game. He's playing games with you with hopes you will wait for him to come back, but he'll only come back if he can't find someone he thinks is better.

One of the biggest mistakes I made when I was younger was waiting on a guy and not living my life for me. It got me nowhere but heartache. Move on with your life, move down here if thats what your plans were. Go to school, work, whatever it is you want to do. Date when you're ready. But please don't wait around because he tells you that he loves you and one day you may be back together. Because while you may be back together one day, you may not ever get back together. Do you really want to have wasted any of your life waiting for him if he doesn't come back? And really, after the pain and heartache hes inflicted on you, do you really want him back?

Whats ment to be will happen no matter where you are. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

You know, Bellah- what it all boils down to is trust. Do you trust him- that he is telling the truth, that he wouldn't do this again further on down the line, that he isn't just hedging bets in case the grass isn't greener where he is heading? If you do trust him , then you have to decide whether or not you can live with his terms, or whether to set your own. If you don't trust him, then you really should move on with your life. I don't normally like to give out relationship advice, but I will tell you that without trust, you do not have a healthy relationship.

 This is for you! You're a great person with a lot to offer, and when the right person comes along, you'll be so glad you didn't settle!

So, right this very second they are having a funeral for a harbor patrol office over in the basketball pavillion place on campus where I work. And it's all very sad -- died on duty, left a wife and small child, yadda yadda. But here's the thing -- apparently when he died he was helping to secure a tugboat that was trying to escape. And he took off his personal floatation device because it was bulky and in the way. Which means that when he slipped and fell into the canal, hitting his head, he had nothing to keep him afloat until he could be rescued. And he, of all people, should have known better.

And so they're broadcasting his funeral on all the local teevee stations, blocking roads for hours, etc... And does it ever get mentioned that THIS is why you wear your life jacket AT ALL TIMES around the water, no matter how safe and experienced you think you are? No. Just "fallen hero" rhetoric.

I'm sure there's a special corner of hell being prepared for me even as I type this. I do feel sorry for his wife, though. If I was in her shoes, I'd be torn between missing him more than I could express, and hating his guts for leaving me a widow through a stupid, fatal lapse in judgement.

So, every so often I get in a pouty "everyone hates me; guess I'll go eat worms" mood. And then, like clockwork, I am reminded that it is so not all about me.

My younger brother (27) had a problem a year or so ago with a grapefruit-sized tumor that developed right by his hip joint. The good news is that it was benign. But, it's a kind that likes to grow back. Which it is doing. So, if he doesn't have surgery, eventually it will grow huge again and then it hurts him to sit, walk, any of that wacky hip joint stuff. And if he DOES have surgery, each time takes out more of the muscle and surgery #2 will likely leave him with a permanent limp. Not a worst case scenario, but then when it grows back again, #3 will do more damage. And so forth and so on. And because it's on the hip joint, recovery time is like having a hip replaced.

This really sucks. I know we Zobrists are a tumor happy clan, but dammit, 27 is too young.

Time to stop feeling sorry for myself.

I bought a new cage for the girls last week. The only one I could find with the design I liked was a guinea pig/rabbit cage. It is just like the old one, but bigger. It took Daisy all of 3 minutes to escape from it. I just put her in it, since we have had her for a week and she has already grown quite a bit. Now she can get her head & shoulders out, but her tummy and hips get stuck. I know if she wiggles enough she will make it all the way out. I felt bad as I put her back in the smaller cage alone. I am hoping she will associate trying to escape with being in solitary. I figure another week and her tummy will be too big to make it out.

The Easter Bunny finally got to do her thing and now it is time for night night.

Hoppy Easter to those who celebrate, for those who don't Happy Spring!!

Sitting here...catching up...trying to get the kids to THINK about bed....something about Spring Break, staying up late, blah blah blah!

Trying not to listen to the Lemonade Pie in the frig that's calling my name...why did I even make the stupid thing?

Sitting at home still in my bathrobe - ah for lazy Sundays. Thinking about Coachella, listening to the bands I don't know about, pulling the CDs for the bands we already love, getting excited about 2 days in the desert still over a month away. Smiling to myself becasue I had the foresite to take Monday off so the laziness can continue. Maybe we'll see a DVD.

Reading about Marie Antoinette and finding that I'm so drawn into the minutea of French Court culture that I can't stop reading - even though it's a bit dry and I can't keep all of these people with numerous name straight. I'm about half way through and things are still happy in court. Heads will roll soon, I think.

When it comes time for rolling heads, I've got a great bio on the executioner of Paris and his family.:D

Lazy evening following a very busy, crazy day with lots of wild kids, eggs, candy, food, messes, etc. Nice day, but kind of hectic.

Yeah, I'm wondering if I should read Simon Schama's Citizens next since it is about the revolution - or maybe I'll just kill myself reading that much French history. ;)

Worked my tuckus off at... doing nothing.

Well I did make a hearty and unhealthy breakfast: Cook an entire package of bacon, then fry up the potatoes using the bacon grease instead of oil. Also mix in garlic and Spike. When the potatoes are close to being down, melt a hunk of butter (not margarine) in a saucepan. Scramble up four eggs with milk and whip in the melted butter. Cook the eggs. Put everything on a plate. Pour milk into two frozen glasses and pig out.

That and I took down a ceiling fan that kept trying to commit suicide.

Trying to figure out where this weekend went. Finishing my breakfast of donut and decaf. Getting over the shock that the tests I had running over the weekend actually ran successfully. Wondering if it's too late to get the day after Coachella off.

...just stting here at work, on lunch...clock watching for 4:30 to come quickly...

...thinking about gathering all my tax crap together and getting it taken care of on thursday since I now have it off...

It is very gusty outside, and chilly...with this weather being so wierd and going from one extreme to another over night I am wondering if I will ever get over my sinus infection...

Slept in, now just checking the boards after breakfast. Spring Break ain't a bad deal for me. My morning job goes away but I'll have to show up in the evenings. I can take that.

Now deciding which chores to aim for today. Hoping that evil puzzle won't call my name too loudly. I won't touch it until I've done something constructive.

Ya know, Burger King is introducing something that just might interest you. ;)

Enormous Omelet Sandwich (http://money.cnn.com/2005/03/28/news/midcaps/burgerking_breakfast/index.htm?cnn=yes)

Only a mere 47 grams of fat, unlike this beauty (http://money.cnn.com/2004/11/15/news/funny/hardees/) which weighs in with a whopping 107 grams of fat (1400 calories).

My arteries constrict just thinking about these items.
