This company (http://www.greenwoodhall.com/Default.aspx) wants to interview me for an account exec position. Seems legit, what do you guys think?

My only concern is that "account exec" might be their name for telemarketer, because I see that they have call centers. I hope I'm wrong about that, but after my "Internet Fleet Manager" experience I'm a little skeptical about everything.

Here's their Wiki page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenwood_%26_Hall). They're Google Finance page (http://finance.google.com/finance?cid=4368224). Orange County's Animal Services sucks. Just saying.

Tried to call the shelter to inform them that we found a dog last night, that way if the owner calls they can come pick up the dog, and the guy basically was an @ss to me and said that we'd HAVE to hand her over to the shelter and can't foster her here, and basically kept trying to pressure me to have them come pick her up and take her to that horrible shelter.

Fvck that. I'll put up signs. If the owners are even looking for her (which, given the condition she was in when we found her last night, I have to wonder about), then they'll have to find her from the signs. I'm not turning this sweet dog over to that shelter.

So, today at work we found out that the guy who came back to work who didn't have TB as suspected, turns out to really have TB after all. Who knew that I'd end my day with a meeting with the health department doing a presentation on TB. Still I don't think this was one of the identified risks in our project plan.

That might be the most succinct explanation of why LoT is fun to hang around. The meat sacks I work with in real life wouldn't know a good joke if it was wrapped in bacon and deep fried. Not to mention they all think dlr/wdw is something you have to endure with your kids just once in a lifetime.

I'm always curious to know the real story behind bad hotel reviews. Specifically, ones where 99% of the reviews are glowingly positive, but one dude says it's the filthiest, most unfriendly hotel they've ever seen in their extensive world travels. I mean, at that point, I can't help but think, "Okay, what did you do to piss the hotel off?" Either that or they just got really unlucky and stayed the one day someone spaced out and forgot to clean a room.

In a similar vein, I have been looking for a couple of things on eBay. I always look at the feedback as a gauge of whether I want to buy from that person. I am always amused when someone has 300 positive feedbacks and one nasty negative one. More often than not, that particular buyer has only purchased one or two items on eBay. Idiot.

I worked in a hotel for awhile. Some people get totally pissed at the slightest thing. The ice machine is not on their floor, they did not get a free upgrade, the hooker did not work out (I did not say it was a nice hotel).

I'd hazard a guess that the "reviewer" was pissed at some other issue and lashed out.

I can't believe I almost forgot this "moment" from Chicago...

(Cut/Paste from an IM)

So, the show I went to is called the NRA show - which stands for National Restaurant Association.

Naturally, one can assume what most people think when they see NRA on my badge.

So, I was riding the elevator up after a particularly tiring day at the show. Another young lady was taking the same ride up and asked "Oh, you're working a gun show?"

To which I respond, and I'm shocked that I forgot until just now, "The only gun show I'm working is this..." and I raised my right arm in that muscle pose.

We laughed hard, she got off the elevator, and I went to my floor.

My best friend Rhonda is a concert pianist and teacher. The last three years she has taught class piano on Crystal Cruises, basically cruising for free in exchange. She has been to the Carribean three times, once through the Panama Canal. She even got to take her husband on one cruise.

I just got an e-mail from her. She has been chosen to do the same next winter on Crystal's world cruise! She leaves L.A. on January 21st and returns on May 7th. She'll be hitting Cozumel, then across to Bora Bora, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Russia, Alaska, B.C., and San Francisco.

She's a little excited. I'm a little jealous.

I should have concentrated on piano more.

So, I know I'm not a parent and can't fully understand all the challenges involved until I am one. But there are some basics of "positive and negative reinforcement" that don't take experience to understand, and understand when used in a horribly, horribly wrong fashion.

Witness my visit last week to a stationary store. As I walked in, a mom and her kid, maybe 2 or 3 years old, arrived, the son receiving a, "Now, don't touch anything" admonishment. Not 2 minutes later, the kid is walking past a wall display of cards, sticks his hand out and dumps an entire stack of cards on the floor.

Mom picks the cards up, puts them back, and picks son up. This was the conversation they proceeded to have, nearly verbatim, I ain't making this up.

Mom: Now why did you do that when I asked you not to touch anything?
Kid: [no reaction to the question at all.]
Mom: Do you want some candy?
Kid: Yes
Mom: We'll get you some candy. And maybe some cake later.
[pause]
Mom: Are you going to touch anything again?
Kid: Yes
Mom: No, no touching. You're not allowed to touch

Geez, mom, I wonder why your kid doesn't listen to you.

Capt Jack

According to Wiki page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasoline_usage_and_pricing), about 45 countries have gas that is more expensive than in the United States (in US dollars).

Iceland, France, United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Netherlands, Germany, Finland, Denmark, and Norway are all above $8/gallon.

Of course, huge portions (compared to the U.S.) of those amounts are tax.

I don't doubt it at all. Most of those countries have decent public transportation systems.

The closest public transportation option is a bus stop (not a park and ride) 3 miles away and then it would take an additional 2 hours to get to work.

Man... the person who takes over at 2 called and offered me her hours - about half an hour after I made plans for what I'd do when I get off. I considered cancelling and taking the hours, but then realized that I hadn't eaten and I'd have to go hunting for someone to tell that the phone wouldn't be covered for half an hour, meaning I'd probably have to explain that the other person wasn't feeling well, etc. and all the hassle that implies, plus rushing off for a quick burger instead of the lovely lunch I've been salivating for, plus, after you account for taxes, yes it's extra money, but not THAT much extra - just enough to make me feel guilty for not staying till 5. Plus, it wouldn't really be 3 extra hours if I have to take a half hour lunch, now would it?

So now I'm still getting off at 2, but I feel like crap about it.

Anyway, my main production site is going to be more of an overall creative portfolio of various things I've done, including the video samples. And, linking from that will be a separate set of pages dedicated to weddings and special events, with a romantic Victorian theme. I even custom created all the background textures from scratch, and so far, it even has Ken drooling. :D

It took a very long time tonight for the client to load their truck. Part of the problem is how large a set it is, and part of it is that they are trying to fit more stuff in the truck than it came with. And it came full.

"Coppelia" on a weekend run does not require fully-built house sets and a gajillion drops. On the bright side we got it all taken apart without the set guy (who comes to guide us on building and striking the sets). I don't know if he showed in the end or not, but we got the work done without him. This is a guy who seems incapable of delegating work. So he has to oversee everything. Every individual thing. Including folding drops. Four years ago he made us open up any drop he didn't personally oversee the folding of. Not a happy crew.

Show went down at 4:30 or so. It took three hours to get the set taken apart and loaded. Granted, that's not a long time, all things considered, but it was a long three hours for us. Not to mention that we hadn't had food since noon. Not a happy me.

I am now home, and my hubby gave me pizza and beer and I am considerably happier.

Speaking of Vicodin, tomorrow the root canal dentist takes a look at my toothache. It's so bad I'm actually yearning for root canal.

About 18 months ago I had my first ever root canal.

It was about the most straightforward simple dental procedure ever. No pain, no muss, little fuss. I don't know if mine was particularly unusual, but I certainly came away wondering what all the fuss was about.

Less usual, though I would suspect your nerve was completely dead, rather than dying. It's the final throes that are the worst in the death of a root canal. I haven't had a root canal procedure done, but from my experiences as a dental assistant for 6 years, the worst come from improperly performed root canals, the inability to retrieve all of the dying/diseased nerve, and from the pressure of packing in any temporary/permanent cements.

Good luck with your RC! Getting one when needed is a great thing.

I had a pretty extensive root canal a few months back. The procedure itself wasn't painful at all, especially considering the knee-buckling pain I was in beforehand, but it was pretty darn sore for the next 24 hours, after the Novocaine wore off. But, that what Vicodin are for and they worked nicely.

Soooo,

In about 16 hours, the original project I play for, called Naked Funk, will be opening up for the legendary George Clinton at the Belly Up in San Diego (His bass player, Lige Curry, is in our band as well.) From what I understand the show is sold out, so it will be one of the bigger crowds I've played for. And yet, I'm way too excited to be nervous. I just want to get through our set so I can take a seat and, for the first time, see him do his thing live.

I found kittens this morning at work. There are 5 (I think). Since I never saw a momma cat I am thinking they are a dump job and ended up here for the shade and safety. Our lot is the quietest around. I just gave them water. They are totally wild, and very small.

So...
I went out Friday night. It was my first Chuy's outing in quite awhile. I saw a mess of people I hadn't seen in the last year. I guess I really have lost a lot of wieght, but because I see myself every day it doesn't seem like much. I got one heck of an ego boost!! It is more than enough motivation to keep going.
