The standard line when you move into any place in Dana Point is "Well, there isn't any AC but you won't need it with the wonderful ocean breezes around here."

Yeah, unless you are in a second-story apartment with vaulted ceilings. Then those wonderful ocean breezes are few and far between on a day like this.

We continue to melt as well.

Same with any place in Huntington. I think there are maybe 3 complexes that have it. Probably the same in almost every beach community. My parents house doesn't have air, neither does my friends. Both are less than 2 miles from the ocean. They are all melting. We didn't need it when I was younger. The hotter days are more and the ocean breeze is less.

But on the bright side...it is a DRY heat, we have killer a/c everywhere we need to go, AND we have a lovely pool outside. :p

Well, it was cooler here in Orange today than in North Hollywood yesterday. But that was not a whole lot of consolation as I'm pretty certain there were parts of the sun that fit that generous criteria.

It was hot enough today that attempting to simply dilute plant food that had been warmed in our hardly-insulated garage with piping hot hose water seemed to instead produce a pretty vigorous exothermic reaction.

It was spontaneous-chemistry-experiment hot today. I wonder what fumes I inhaled coming out of there.

Except for this weekend, San Francisco is a good place for cool weather lovers Cherney!

The heat here was awful, not as bad as LA, but for SF, 90+ in town (and 100 in my apartment) was hideous.

It was a blissful 50 degrees on the cable car this morning. How do I spell relief? A good dose of the marine layer rolling in.

We've actually had somewhat normal weather for once, none of this 50-degree jump and drop nonsense. Staying at a nice 95 during the day.

Heh, well, too hot to do much of anything. So hot, I could not really enjoy the first visit to Frida Kahlo at MOMA. So, going again on Thursday and will report later this week.

Let's see, it was even too hot to read comfortably (oops, back to weather again).

I just ordered two new bookcases for the apartment, then I get to move the old lower cases into my room, and finally I can start hanging up some art. Once I've rearranged the furniture and my desk. The Fantasia art will finally go up on the wall, yay!

The guy behind us was trying to impress the girls he was with by spewing inane "facts" all night long. Some of the subjects he touched on while listening to music were:

Sweet Dreams was done by U2
Rubik's Cube
Guitar Hero includes a Sitar
Cheese production, segueing into
Different types of sheep
The Wineries of Napa and why the harvests of the past 3 years haven't been so good
All about Brazilian Music (of which he knew NOTHING)
and my favorite quote: "Bebel Gilberto is the Buddah of Brazil".I told him during Bebel that I could hear every word he was saying. He said he would "TRY and be more considerate". He didn't try hard enough. I yelled at him again and told him to shut up. He told me to relax. I told him I would as soon s he stopped talking.

Chris decided that they guy hadn't figured out yet that he wasn't going to get laid.

He didn't stop talking so I decided to stand up and dance. I couldn't hear him standing up nd he had to deal with my Brazilian-inspired ass in his face.

Hmph.According to the Crystal Light web site (http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/Products/ProductInfoDisplay.htm?SiteId=1&Product=4300094541), there are 11 Ralphs or Albertsons (http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/Products/ProductStoreListing.htm?Zip=91607&Product=4300094541&Miles=5&PageNo=1) near you that SHOULD carry it. If they do not have it in stock, chances are that they can and will order it for you.

Also, you can go to Buy The Case.net (http://www.buythecase.net/product/6665/crystal_light_sunrise_classic_orange_soft_drink_mi x/?engine=googlebase) and stock up (on, well... a case!). Thanks Kevy and Snowlake! I will use those online options. I called Kraft yesterday to find out what was going on, they gave me all the stores in my neighborhood that I'd been to already. They suggested requesting it from the store managers. Which I will do. But, last night at an Albertson's near my kitchen in Culver City, I found some. So I bought 8 packages. Just in case they stop carrying it, too. And, just for experimental purposes, some sugar-free Tang (product of Mexico!) which I had never seen before, and a package of Crystal Light Mandarin Orange Red Tea something something. Neither substitute was as good as the original. But, I'm once again fully stocked with refreshing orange-flavored beverages. Hooray!

Just got home from UC. This was the 3rd trip The Boy has made there in less than a month, all for ear pain. The first 2 trips the Drs looked in his ear, yep, ear infection. And gave me a prescription for Zythromax (he is allergic to almost everything else). The Dr today looked in his ear, asked me some questions, looked againand said, "Didn't the other 2 Drs look at his ear???" The infection is not in his inner ear, but in the canal. That was way the oral antibiotics weren't working.

I like the $2 bills as well - and the new gold colored dollar coins are very nice too of course.

So I guess our tooth fairy likes to mix it up a bit.

Dear Kevy,

I can totally relate to this problem...if a butterfly flaps its wings in the Congo, I wake up (that is assuming I got to sleep in the first place, which in most cases I didn't).

And you also have the problem of realising you should have taken a tablet earlier and now it's too late...happens to me too.

The tablet "Stilnox" is about the only one that usally (but not always) works for me, but the Australian Press did a huge beat-up on it after some fvckwit took one, didn't go to bed, and walked off a multi-storey balcony. The fall didn't kill him...the ground did. Stupid Heath Ledger also managed to make everyone go retentive about sleeping pills, so now the rest of us have to suffer.

My doctor won't prescribe them to me. He wanted me to listen to CDs of some soporiphic dude telling me I should sleep, and count down from 50. It doesn't work, as I find myself doing intensive mathematical equations on the numbers. I get so bored with the drone that I imagine Brass Marching Bands in my head.

Then there's the other CD - a background of pouring rain, with someone striking lead crystal vases of water. Sounds great for 25 minutes, and then the rain makes you get up to have a pee !!! I then spend the next hour calculating how many hours, minutes and seconds I would have to sleep if I nodded off right now...and then I recaculate every 10 minutes or so.

Of late, I have been reading an incredibly good book (I've read about 3 in my entire life, because I never get a quiet moment) by Bill Bryson called "A Short History of Nearly Everything". OMG it's good - I can't put it down, and I read a chapter per night and I do sleep. Even if it doesn't help you, I would urge you and anyone else with an active mind to read the book.

Anyway, I hope you are feeling better, and I look forward to seeing you and Gus-Gus next year.

Love and hugs,

Dear Kevy,My favorite thing to think about when I can't sleep is every problem I currently have to deal with, might have to deal with soon, might have to deal with in the distant future, is someone else's problem but I feel the need to make mine, or is not a problem but I figure out a way to make a problem.

And they all have to be solved RIGHT NOW! Simultaeously.

The other thing I can't figure out is how I can barely keep my eyes open in the living room watching TV and have to muster every ounce of energy just to walk to the bedroom, but as soon as I crawl under the covers I am suddenly WIDE AWAKE. I sometimes think, "I've got this licked: I'll just sleep on the couch." Nope: the problems suddenly appear on the couch.

I have this problem. If I am into a t.v. show...asleep. If I am trying to sleep, it doesn't happen.

Yes, normally I do fall asleep on the couch. Even in the middle of the day, when I shouldn't be sleepy at all, I can't keep my eyes open if I am sitting on the couch. My body starts to slouch over towards the pillows, my feet end up curled up under me. Sometimes a blanket will end up on me....

Well the answer is obvious, and Gus-Gus will definitely agree with me: if the old couch is causing problems, buy a new one!!!

Oh crap - that won't work - you'll worry about how to pay for it...

Seriously though, why don't you try reading this book http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Short_History_of_Nearly_Everything one chapter per night. If you don't like the book, I'll buy it from you when I get over there (providing the currents of the Pacific Ocean don't keep dragging Bear and I all over the place).

Here's what I know about baseball:
Eat a hot dog (the food)
Drink beer

They hit a ball (it's white) with a bat. Then they run around and try and touch the bases (the things in the ground). If the person in the field catches the ball before it hits the ground it's an out. If the ball goes out of the stadium it's a home run (guaranteed point(s)) Oh and points are called runs.

I think.

I dunno, I watch hockey!

After some speedy work at the E.R. it looks like everything is fine. Grandma Swanie has a history of mini-strokes and the first calls that came in from my Grandfather were that she had another one (He found her on the bathroom floor this morning having fainted twice). The docs have checked her heart and have done a MRI and haven't found anything yet, so all signs are pointing to dehydration.

The doctor would like to keep her overnight, but they think she'll be released this afternoon since he hasn't found anything more serious. Personally, I'm hoping they have second thoughts about sending her home. I'd feel better if they kept an eye on her tonight.

I don't get it.

Anyways, I LOVE your expression!! Priceless!!! Did the two people in the picture realize you were making that face? Were you verbally letting it be known that you thought he was hot?

I have a picture with a guy, a friend. Right as my friend was getting ready to snap the picture {end of school thing} he puts his arm around me and it freaks me out and I have this 'OMG! Yikes!' face. It is really funny. My mother scolded me for doing it. "He looks like such a nice boy. Why would you do that?'

Now, your guy looks like such a nice boy. :evil: {a couple of years later, this guy did too, wow, how time changes things!}

I just got home from a show with Snoop Dog and 311. Man, I hope they don't drugscreen any time soon at work. As soon as we hit the gates surrounding the place, weed. Mucho mucho weed!!! We'd hit clear spots {usually the ones where there was security or police} but it was around. The show was great, we only heard Snoop Dog from the concourse area. I think he has a song called 'What's My F'in Name'. Cause he sure kept saying it.

Neither of them knew what kind of face I was making. The hot guy said something like, 'I'm gonna pretend choke you.' And I just smiled and then gave him the look. And, no, I kept my comment about wanting to kiss him to myself.

The Dodgers game last night was fun. The Angels played like crap. Which is fine by me because I'm a Red Sox fan. Wearing Angels colors in the bleachers at Dodger Stadium is a trip. I felt like a Republican in Boston. I got lots and lots of attention. People take their sports wayyyy to seriously. Me and several others wearing Angels garb were heckled and even some had stuff thrown at them. Nice.

Dodger Stadium is a little rougher around the edges than Angels Stadium. Then again, I've never sat in the bleachers at AS. I saw 5 fist fights and about 12 people were ejected from the stadium by LAPD. AND there were even a couple of arrests. Neat!

On a completely unrelated note, my stomach just made a gurgling noise that sounded like frog saying "Going!"

1) Bleachers, 2) Angels. You saw Dodger stadium at its worst (okay, 2nd worst, worst would be Giants in town).

But then, I tend to prefer over zealous fans to the bored uninterested fans at Angels Stadium. Why do those people go to the games, they clearly don't like baseball?

Well....have you ever been to a football game? I think they are even more aggressive, if you can imagine that. Plus, we get the Raider fans down here a lot, well, they live all over. My husbands' friend was at a Charger game, wearing Charger gear and these two burly Raider fans jumped them. Well, they didn't realize they were pretty tough guys themselves and proceeded to have their assets whipped!! I wish I could have seen that. *sigh* Would have been awesome.

And, the price of gas. Because of the price of gas, I am sitting here. It always has to be thought of as part of the cost of any trip.

I didn't know you could reverse things, I've never played with photoshop. I just thought it was pretty amazing. It is not too difficult to reverse an image in Photoshop (Image > Rotate Canvas > Flip Canvas Horizontally). To flip just his face, I used the Lasso Tool to outline/select just his face, cut it, pasted it into a new PS document, flipped the image, and then pasted it back into the original document. A little cloning and cleanup and that was all.

Taking the arm out was easy (although it could have been a lot better). I could have cloned out the gloved hand as well, but I didn't have the time. Plus it amused me to leave it.

My PS knowledge and skill level is pretty low. I work in the graphic arts industry and have seen some amazing things done with PS.

We had a great time at Louis XIV tonight, but I have to confess my greatest pleasure was seeing Not Afraid channel her punk rock roots, transforming her stance like a Japanese robot - elbows jutting and pogoing against the crowd. The young club girls were not match for her as she lifted them out of her way and jettisoned them back across the dance floor. Don't mess with Not Afraid when she's grooving to a favorite band - and if you claim to be their greatest fan, you'd better be willing to prove it.

Sooo... I found out that my step-grandpa passed away Thursday. I feel so removed from the situation, since grandma's death and mom's divorce, but learning of it has brought back a rush of great memories. Christmases, vacations, birthdays, reunions... all of which I was made a part of. He and grandma always made sure I felt special, even if I wasn't biologically related to them. I have missed grandma every day since, and I miss grandpa, just knowing he is gone.

Dear BlueErica,

I am sorry to learn of the loss of your Grandpa (step or otherwise). The emotions you are expressing (now) reflect the sentiments I expressed in this post http://www.loungeoftomorrow.com/LoT/showpost.php?p=220533&postcount=1121,, and hold true even when skipping a generation back to your Grandparents.

I hope you have plenty of good photos, and are brave enough to hang some on your walls - the memory of your Grandpa is only as good as you can make it...

Love and hugs,

The Stoat XXX.

Thanks everyone for the sentiments.

I had a feeling that my sisters (half, it was their grandfather who passed) weren't told, so I delivered the news last night. It was odd, though, since they barely knew him. They were saddened as much by the loss, but from losing something they were never given the chance to have.

It's strange how life's circumstances can create distances where there didn't need to be any. Petty differences easily become 'more important' than the big picture, and again, the innocent suffer from it. It's impossible to have it all, but to have the chance robbed from you when you're just a child. I guess I'm hurting a bit for them.

On a tangent, J and I were out to dinner and an older man randomly came up and gave me a compliment, then told us (essentially) to not take one another for granted. He didn't seem crazy, just distraught - he recently lost his wife who was putting a bandaid on him one minute and a few minutes later she was gone.

You can't make life any longer to give yourself that second chance... later... to tell someone you love them, to make something right, to be everything you can. Do it now. There will be the future, but there's always today.

*sigh*

Definitely take the time to appreciate loved ones. I've made sure the last few years to always sign off conversations with my mother by saying "I love you" even though she can't say it back to me. It used to hurt, but now I understand her a bit. She does what she can.

Condolences to everyone who's lost someone lately. I'd address each one individually, but I haven't much time lately. But, you all are in our thoughts and prayers.

I just ordered 1,500 new business cards and 100 magnets for the wedding and events portion of the business. They match the website, and have the "Capture the Excitement..." slogan on the back with a "Shared By" section for a referrer to write their name for inclusion in my $50 "sharing" program. I chose "Shared By" rather than "Referred By" because it sounds a bit more emotional, and emotions sell in this business. I'm going to bundle up 10 cards and 1 magnet with a letter explaining my sharing program and send them out to friends and fellow business associates.

I got a smoking deal on the cards and magnets, thanks to researching some discount codes online. :D
