You know what elevators need? Buttons that can be 'unpressed'. Say you hit the wrong button, hit it again and it unselects that floor. That way, if you get on an elevator and some idiot has pressed all the floors, you can undo their sh!t.
:D
Cool! That way if I'm in a hurry I can unpress all the buttons and go directly to my floor.

After 2 days of extreme pressure at work, with the owner ML coming at me with all sorts of things that needed to be done, she tells me that we need to talk. After 7 years in Hell my paranoia runs deep and I immediatly wondered what I did wrong. She ended up just wanting to talk to me one on one to tell me that, "You are doing a stellar job and I couldn't be happier with my choice to hire you." She said that she knew I had trouble reading her and she just wanted me to know she appreciated me. It was the nicest thing a boss has ever said to me. She later told me that after the snarky comments a vendor had said to me they then turned around and told her a bunch of nice things about me.
Tonight I have to bust a move to get things loaded into the motorhome for a weekend trip to Lake Success with our next door neighbors. We are leaving after work on Friday. These are really neat people and are a lot of fun to be around. The funny part is that they really want us to go. They have kids our age, but treat us as equals. Once again, Nick will be the token child. We are also taking The Boat. It will be the first time in over a year that it has been out of the garage. I can't believe how excited I am to be going camping.

She didnt actually use the word... she said... When I asked you about this.. you said you spoke with her about it.
well I did, I ran the query, I sopke to the other party about two people on the query.
I guess what I was supposed to do, was HAND the other person my query. Thats what the super assumed I meant when I said I spoke to her about it.
Well, its not... I spoke with her about one person.
I didnt understand what the boss wanted me to do, and the boss didnt ask what I meant.
So what she said was... "and the hardest things for me to talk to you about, is that you told me you did this, but when I talked to Catherine, you didnt!"
Well, no, because I didnt say I gave her the query.
It was frustrating. But thank you GC.

My dad had yet another surgery yesterday. The good news was they were able to remove the gall bladder laproscopically. The bad news was that they discovered that the gall baldder had actually died and become gangreenous. And his blood pressure dropped druing surgery. But, they're confident they got everything out, and his blood pressure is back to normal. They're keeping him in the hospital until Monday to be sure no infections return and that he can keep food down. And the best news, from his standpoint, he should be cleared to go back to work by a week from Monday!

I'm walking to work this morning and an old man comes out of his house with a paperbag lunch in his hand. He raises it above his head and screams at the top of his lungs, 'Josefina! JOSEFINA!' (Now in order to grasp the situation, the man had a huge accent and the 'JO' in 'Josefina' sounded like he was clearing his throat.) Then one block away an old lady with a scarf over her head says, 'What?!' The old man says, 'You forgot your lunch!'

Hey all, thanks for the thoughts and prayers.
I can't even begin to catlog the emotions I've been going through. I've just talked to my mom, and he continues to improve. They've done an MRI and confirmed that it was a clot stroke (as opposed to a bleeding stroke, which is good) near the vision center of the brain (his vision has been blurry). Still awaiting tests to determine where the clot came from (heart, carotid artery, or within the brain), which will determine future course of action. Meanwhile, he's walking now, even taking stairs, so that's great news. Still having some memory issues, but some of the small stuff he was having trouble with yesterday is back.
And speaking of those little memory gaps, under the heading of finding humor in anything, one of the questions he couldn't answer (I presume it was part of the standard, "What day is it?" questioning) was, "Who is our current President?" So later, when we were visiting and he reported that het thought his vision was a little better, my mom decided to see if his memory was improving as well. So she asked, "Do you unfotunately remember the President's name?" He thought about for a little bit, and, clearly struggling, finally says, "Nincompoop. Dorkbutt." We declared him cured. (He's rememberd today, btw).

I went shopping while she was at the groomers and got new shoes, a new comforter and the 'Bullet in a Bible' Green Day dvd. :D Tori got a porcelain Disney doll (Snow White) and a hula-hoop. So I just got home after my computer crime final. Haven't done an in-class essay since last august, so I was rusty. I completely blanked on one sub-question, did everything else, came back to it with 4 minutes left and suddenly remembered d'oh! Computer trespasser exception! And dashed off an answer, the last sentence of which wasn't grammatically correct, but since I hit . at the end of that sentence just as they called time, I had to let it go. Hey, at least I got something down!
Instructor's kind of an ass, and a a really dull and boring ass, so I don't know how things will turn out, but I milked that first question for all the issues I could find (was way better prepped on substantive law (1st question) than procedural law (2nd question)) and then some, so hopefully that will cover any omissions in the second question.
Two courses down, two to go. Plus an R&T edit. 13 days to Orlando!

Now I'm not a Tom Cruise fan, but you try raising $48 million dollars in a weekend! It's weird that the media is calling this a failure. It still seems pretty decent to me. But if they are comparing it to part two's takings, then yes it's not doing well. I have no plans to see it...

We decided on a whim to see it yesterday. There's a bit where Cruise's screen-wife tearfully asks him to tell her that the love between them is real. My own Tom leaned over to me at this point and said "you know that Katie Holmes has actually had this coversation."

We saw it last week at a free screening. It was better than I expected. Not the greatest movie of all time. Not even the greatest action movie of all time. But it was enjoyable. PSH of course was awesome. The story was good, and J.J. Abrams' directing was, of course, good.

so... I get home to see 2 boxes sitting at the front door. since I didn't order anything, nor did I authorize anything to be ordered, I wondered what they were. I should havre known before looking. There is a large lady, who wears mumus and watched QVC all day, living on the next street over. For some reason UPS likes to send her crap to my address. Just because I shop at Lane Giant.com does not mean I also shop at QVC. In the past I have taken her packages to her, but this time one of them is very heavy. I am not going to hurt my back because a UPS driver didn't check the address (same number, totally different street). I called UPS and they acted like I was the one in the wrong because I didn't want to redeliver it. They told me that I would have to wait for a phone call to arrange for them to pick up the boxes and redeliver them to the correct person. GRRRRRR

Nobody can run in a movie like Tom Cruise. I give him that.
I enjoyed it. Popcorn fluff that won't stay with me for long, but I loved seeing Kerri Russell again. Love, love, love her. More Kerri Russell. The wife that looked like a Liv Tyler / Evangalina Lily (sp? chick on Lost) hybrid drove me a little nuts, but one can't have it all.
Dug the old school action. The scene on the bridge was fantastic. Run Cruise Run...and get smacked into cars more often. That was cool.

Soooo, there's something askew in the universe. I'm convinced of it.
I've been a bit "off" lately, sad, upset, depressed even. Maybt it is just because I'm still worrying about my sniffily Charles but, nothing seems to be going the way it should. After Chris' train wreck of a day yesterday, i though "how can things get much odder than this?"
Well, I guess they can. If his day was a train wreck yesterday then my day today could be described as "trashed". Even though I've been productive today I didn't get ANY of the long list of createive endeavors even started. Just now, I gave up and decided to pull out the trash cans for tomorrow is trash day.
Our regular bin is FULL. Overflowig full. As I am taking it out to the curb, struggling with the heavy can, I lose my balance on the edge of the sidewals and fall - me AND the trash - to the cement. OUCH!
To make matter worse, Chris, sitting just on the other side of the window, doesn't hear the crash nor my scream.

If MG's kid is in the same program as mine... its a tester program.
Along with giving the 'smarter' kids work at the level they need, they have this pull out time...
My son goes once a week, and its a either a group enviroment, for talking, to help them , in his case him, deal with having to wait for the other kids to catch up to him. Or for the teacher to teach to the other kids before moving on to him.
Since they dont test for GATE till 3rd grade, they cant really segregate the faster kids away from the less than average.
We lucked out last year, and he was in a 1/2 mix, so the not so sharp 2nd's with the sharp 1st's. This year... no such luck.
Anyway... they do this group thing... then they also have like a play room. THis counselor stays with him for an hour.. talks to him, and does whatever he wants to do. None of the time is her choice.
They can play a game, just talk... whatever.
They fell it lets these kids have control over part of their day.
Anyway.. as I said.. her kid may be in a different program.. but thats kind of how ours works.

Speaking of cute and evil...
My librarian coworker needed to make a flyer of fantasy books for kids. The head librarian didn't like her graphic choice (books and stars) and said she needed to add a unicorn. She, like me, has had plenty of unicorns and rainbows, so I suggested a knight and/or dragon. No, not at all. It is for kids that have had behavioral issues in the past, that get easily frustrated when they have to think things out. It isn't a "you got in trouble so you have to see a counselor" but more of a "let's try to keep you out of trouble so you don't have to see the principal." I
n Nick's case, he has issues relating to other kids his age. He also hates having to slow down what he's doing to think. He has anger issues related to a strong sense of "fairness." Of course, it is my job to figure out if he was really wronged, or if it is just happening in his own mind.
She said that these kids are really smart, but easily distracted, which can also lead to behavior problems.
Prudence

Oh good. I keep hearing that "no child left behind" has meant the end of "gifted" programs many places, because the effect of making gov't mandated standards is that places are no longer willing to exceed those standards. If things had progressed to the point where smart kids were treated as behavior problems just for being smart...I don' know.

Not a biggy. the one thing I didn't have access to was her email. I guess there was an email in her box from a customer asking about placing an order. It came in at 10am. Since I don't know her password (and the owner/boss is the one who set it up that way), why should I be the one in trouble? He decided to get on the side of me and move over. Thankfully the people in the carpool lane saw what was happening and left me enough room to swerve over. I had room to speed up finally so I did and he moved over to the carpool lane and started screaming at me, waving something, not watching where he was going at all. Being a Bostonian, she had to talk to the entire train about it. "Well, that's what I get for not paying attention. After it hit the side, it was still playing in my ears, talk about non-skip. So much for that, huh? It's probably smashed now. Oh well."

There was this mentally challenged guy on the subway this morning laughing at everything he saw. He laughed at me when I made eye contact, he laughed at a woman opening a newspaper, he laughed at his shoes... It actually made me laugh, too. It also made me think, 'Yeah, man, you got it right. This world is pretty hysterical if you look at it the right way.' Sometimes you can learn a lot from strangers.

There was a 10 year, but only for the "pretty people." I found out about it from the 1 person I still talk to on a regular basis (not by choice, but she is the older sister of David's deceased best friend). She wasn't invited either, but she knew about it.
Honestly I don't really care to go. Even back then most of my friends were either older or younger than me. Cheryl was one of the few people in my class that I hung out with. She is putting it on with the only other person I would want to see. They aren't planning on having it until the Thanksgiving weekend, so there is still much time to talk myself into going. I was only there my Jr and Sr years, so I really don't care either way.

Soooo...One of our garage doors broke last night- the thingamajig broke away from the wall and the whatsyamacallit came off the track, and there were a few ominous looking wires hanging from the sides of the door. So naturally, we tried to force it open manually. That's how we discovered that the thingamajig was broken, because it gouged out a small crevice in one of the panels of the door. We managed to get it closed again and thought perhaps we should call someone who could actually fix the damn thing. Having just remodeled a large portion of the house and then bought a new water heater, we were sweating the bill on this one. Today, we called the people who had installed our opener, they came out within the hour and had it fixed in no time. We got it repaired and also got a new remote for the opener (we had lost one of them) and it only came to a little over $100. I was shocked, both by the cost and rapidity of service. So, of course we ran to Borders and spent a small fortune. :D
