Laughing at Gn2.
Realizing that GD and I had the "screenname for our future child" talk years ago. We are a bunch of dorks.
Now realizing that I really like the name Leota. But of course I'd never put that curse on a child. Perhaps a pet.
Wondering if, after all this talk, people now think I'm pregnant. I'm not! :p
Looking forward to the meet on Sunday.

I know nothing about LiveJournal. I cannot imagine wanting to post a journal for others to read. Nor can I imagine really wanting to read someone else's journal. If I write in a journal (I haven't lately--unhappiness & journals seem to go hand in hand for me), it's for me. Speaking of which, I have some journals I should probably destroy.

I mostly use my Live Journal to keep in touch with distant friends. It's easier than writing letters, a sadly dead art form but one at which I suck. They post what they've been up to and I read it at my leisure. And I post what I've been up to. And post silly things like "what intentional tort are you?" (Which is much funnier to me than it needs to be.) You know you want toread it (http://www.livejournal.com/users/ethelberga/) ... you can't resist.

Oh, I don't know if they're evil.Oh, no prob, whatever you want to call them is cool. ;) Me, I love the poignant past too much to banish my frustrated/depressed/horrified writings permanently. Reading them is actually very cathartic, as it teaches me that no matter how bad you think things are, you'll eventually get over it and move on.
So no book burnings for me. :)

The thing about Live Journal is that it's such a misnomer - think of it rather as a blog - your place to essay about the world, your life, and the people in it.
Those hard copy journals can't be electronic becasue they just are not cumbustible. That is where you hide your scandelous secrets that friends and family only discover after you are dead (or careless and happen to leave it out somewhere). Everyone should have one - or at least some scandelous secret to conceal somewhere.;)

Well so am I...... ;)
My significant other has decided upon hearing on the radio the insane amounts of money spent on this "Valentine's Day" that he is now boycotting the holiday. I insist that he is cheap. Yet he promises me that he wants us to have a non Valentine's holiday two weeks from the 14th with a special surprise for me. I still think he is just cheap.

Tonight she and I are going to the Drive In...we still have one here...they show 8 different pictures a night...It's always a double feature and kids are free...Adults are only $5......We're going to see "Hitch" then I think staying for "Racing Stripes".

ARRRGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
I frikking hate financial entities, my credit union in particular. I just came home to find my stupid credit union has charged my account about $150.00 in fees for debit purchases, etc- even though I had plenty in there to cover it. What's worse, they note that I have money in there, and have deducted the fees and purchase charges, but say I have no available funds. (Actually, the recording says I have a specific amount in my balance, but no available funds.) The only thing I can think of was an insurance check we deposited last week is screwing things up, even though the funds were listed as immediately available. The insurance comapany is clueless, and I know I can get it straightened out on monday, but in the interim I can't use my account. I am so pissed.....:mad:Why do these things always happen on a saturday, when you can't do anything about it until the next business day?

Yesterday I read 3rd Degree by James Patterson. Tonight it looks like it will be a Deen Koontz book. Tomorrow it will be Angles & Demons.
I am planning a lot of cleaning and organizing type things for my 2 weeks...Should be interesting to see how I can avoid doing any of them.

.... I'm waking up, reading the boards (as usual), thinking about things, what I have to do today. Thinking about my first cup of coffee, but drinking a cranberry juice.
... Realizing that last night I was joking about coming close to three-hundred posts, when in reality, it is something a little more like 350.
... Wishing I had taken the day off anyway.
... Glad she had a fun weekend, despite the not so fun parts of it. It's good when things end on a high note!

At work, cleaned up my laptop of any "non-standard" software, only to discover my Company has finally discovered and shut down my access to webmail. Ok, I guess these guys really want me sending my personal stuff over their network - sigh - it wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to work for the department that is supposed to be responsible for championing these initiatives.
In the meantime it appears everyone took the day off - a bittersweet stiuation which give me a chance to lazily catch up after my week in Chicago, but makes me feel bored and unmotivated at the same time. There is so much I'd rather be doing right now.
Oh well, time to draft a new to-do list I guess...

After a few days of feeling winter blah-like, I'm feeling good and motivated today. :)
I have folded a load of clothes and washed another that needs to go in the dryer now. I'm baking an Apple Crisp that should be done in a about 20 minutes. I will then get in the shower and go out to do a bunch of errands; grocery store, bank, library returns, etc. I'll see if my husband wants to go to his fave Mexican restaurant for a late lunch, if not, I'll get take out. Oh, maybe I'll pick up a Banana Cream Pie too (sounds unswanky, but I promise you, it is swank in moderation) at Baker's Square...a little V-Day treat.
A bike ride later might be necessary if it's not raining.

I hate it when I do that- it always seems to happen when I have to be up early, and have a really busy day going. Here's some wake-up stuff::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee:!
I am going in to do battle with my credit union- try and figure out how they'll blame this latest snafu on us. They used to be very reputable, but they started getting rid of long term employees several years ago, in favor of cheaper (and stupider) labor. It shows in their service, and all the weird account mix-ups we've been having.
Next, I'm probably going to be bank- shopping.
Eric has to work late, so I may just put the lavish dinner I had planned on hold until tomorrow- crab just isn't as good re-heated.
Oh, and it's 'exfoliate the house' day- the animals are all shedding up a storm, and there is a disgusting layer of fur over nearly everything!

I'm enjoying the fact that things are finally working properly here in my test environment at work. These last couple of weeks have been fraught with annoying little roadblocks to getting any actual work done. But I seem to have finally worked all the gremlins out. Plus, my department has finished a complete rework of our documentation procedures, which has just made my job a lot nicer since it's now clearly defined what I'm doing. Things had been kindof aimless for a while, it's nice to actually have some results and somewhere to record them for once.
I'm also drinking a cup of tea, having stayed at Disneyland until closing last night.

tell me about it, those 3 animals of ours are in a 710 sq ft condo!
Thankfully we just got tile floors in our living room/dining room / kitchen, so we can sweep and swifter that pretty easily, but the pain is the bedroom carpet and the bed... the cats sleep on the bed, and never leave, except for the litter box and to eat, so needless to say, we have cat sand all over the place... also, our vaccuum is broken :( and we need a new one...

I'm sitting here at work. Last night, I had every intention of recording my podcast early and getting to bed at a reasonable hour, except I got sucked in to watching the stupid Grammys. I have no idea why I'm so fascinated with awards shows, especially when I have no real interest in the nominees (I think our household currently has a grand total of 4 CDs from this year's batch of nominees). I wound up pulling out my microphone at about 1:30 am and wound up going to bed at about 3:30.
Three hours later, I was downing my first cup of coffee and walking the chihuahuas (that's not a euphemism for anything sordid - we actually have two chihuahuas). Then I waiting for my lovely wife to listen to the MousePod, because I wanted to see her reaction to my Valentine's dedication to her.
Finally made it into work. Absolutely exhausted and not ready to deal. Many of the other people in the office carry guns. Monday is not a good place to be around so many guns.

...I am doing what I do best, housework avoidance. I did manage to get all of the dishes caught up first thing this morning. Now I need to be working on the living room.
Since it is too busy to go out tonight I am using my crockpot for spagetti sauce. I think I prefer the stovetop for this. In the next hour or so I will get my garlic butter cooking for the bread.
The Lone Monkey is aware that I am off so he is expecting me to pick him up at 3. I think I am gonna make him sweat it out until 3:30. I may take him to Coldstone for icecream as a VD treat (plus I want good icecream). Or I may put that off until tomorrow.

Update:
I got all tanked up on coffee, then called the credit union. The gal there started giving me the standard speil "I'm sorry, but it's our policy..." and I interrupted her and said "You will take off those charges and free up my funds..." So, she did.:D Actually, she claimed she was going to anyway before I said anything, but she just wanted me to know that inter- bank transfers...blah, blah, blah. I thanked her, and told her I wasn't in the mood for a lecture. I am going to send a ty note, though, simply because it's rare these days when you can accomplish anything by phone, and so quickly.
So, then we went shopping. Well, first to Denny's, then shopping. I think the Girl is growing up, because she wanted technology rather than toys, namely a AM/FM Radio/Alarm Clock/CD player. She also got a pack of Pokemon cards, so there is still some kid in there....

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just got home from rehearsal. Oy. Every show I've done has its stories, this one's got some doozies and it hasn't even opened. Sat. night/Sun. morning, 1:30 AM, the angel's flying rig failed and I had an actress fall 15 feet to the stage. She's okay, but she shouldn't be. EMTs came, she went to the hospital, people freaked out, including me. My immediate thought was that somehow I'd forgotten to hook her to the rig. It was weird how in my panic I had absolutely no recollection of the preceding 10 minutes. Fortunately, another actor was up there with me, and, together, we were able to piece together the sequence of events. I knew, by the time I went to bed at 5:30 AM, that I had done everything correctly, and had a theory about what went wrong. By that time, we had received phone calls from the hospital and knew that she was a little bruised, but otherwise just fine. I mean, if you saw what I saw, you'd know this borders on the miraculous. Tonight I had a chance to look at the rig and the harness, and very easily see how the really stupidly designed hook was able to slip itself off when a little slack was on the line. They'll be making some changes, or they'll be looking for a new stage manager. I'm so grateful she's okay, if a little stiff. I was absolutely terrified that I'd somehow caused someone to be killed or seriously injured. I love theatre and I love my friends but I didn't know that there could be a combination of the two that would make me feel like I wanted to die. I'm better now, she's opening in the show on Friday, and I know what went wrong.
On the plus side - I was able to get them to use Pete Renaday for a recorded bit in the show. Makes my heart swell with pride, it does.
Goodnight.
I'm currently considering never using the phrase, "off the hook" again.

Apparently, there are a bunch of angry "America lovers" who wish to deny other Americans their basic constitutional rights. The train will be fantastic! We've taken it to Seattle from LA and it was a wonderful experience. And, you're going to CHICAGO!!!!!
I adore that city. There is so much to do, see, eat and play with. FLW's house is incredible - do the guided tour and be in awe of the Ginko tree. Take the walking tour of the neighbourhood, too, it is incredibly rich in history and visual pleasures.
It may be too cold, but if you get a change, take one of the architecture riverboat tours. Simply a wonderful! Also, if the Jackie Kennedy exhibition is still at the Field, go see it. I loved it and it really gave me a new appreciation for the early 60's - and fashion.

Oh, today..
I have been on this kick lately: Taking long drawn baths in the afternoon. I swear, nothing has been as luxurious as taking a deep soak before going on with the rest of my day. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, though I do go to class on that day, and do computer lab work (mostly goofing off on the boards as opposed to real efficiency), are sort of like vacation days to me. I get a chance to really pamper myself. So I soak.
Today, as I was washing my hair in the tub, I let the warm water coming from the tap rush over my head. And then I realized; I found a tiny slice of nirvana. So I blissed out under that tap for a while, as the steamy water enveloped the rest of me. OH YEAH!
I did eventually turn off the faucet, but ended up losing track of time anyway. After 50 minutes of listening to jazz, reading a book, and nearly total immersion... It dawned on me that I should probably leave...
Here's hoping everyone got to be as blissed out as I was at some point today...

I immediately pictured dupioni silk in one of the rich color/drapes available over a bamboo blind. That was after 20 seconds of thinking, so idea are not fully flushed - and are incluenced by my own projects.
I just bought a piece of bronze/gold/red dupioni silk with embroidered bees on it in the Garmet District. You did NOT just tell me that. On Mondays and Wednesdays I do have enough time for such a thing....I'm in so much trouble now.
I love a long hot bath. It's going to be hard to not succumb to temptation!
I have time on Monday's!
We could start a club....Afternoon Bathers!
Sounds so decadent! It's usually late morning when I make it to the shower anyway...I might just have to change that to LONG dreamy bath, with wine, candles...of course this might not be a good idea for afternoon baths...
Today I finally broke down and called the Arizona DMV to get the costs of registering our vehicles here...We've been here since July...I guess it's about time!
HOLY FREAKIN COW! It's triple what I paid in Texas for my suburban and my husbands car! $300 bucks for both cars! I asked the girl on the phone if this was a one time registration...Nope! Every year...OH..but it depreciates every year at 2%! Ahhhh!
I know California pays more...but this was a shock for me! It's a good thing I'm getting a hefty tax refund! Geesh!
I need  !

The Lone Monkey just read me his library book. He wanted to read it to me last night but with CS we ran out of time. This is the first book he brought home in a while (other than his weekly reading assignment). He was so pleased with it. I collect mice and he found a book about Owen the mouse. He did a really good job too!!
Right now I am drinking a glass of Sprite, thinking about turning it into a Margarita cooler, and he is making a book about the girls. So far he has the title page: Twitch and Sniff by Nick and Carin and is drawing pictures on the cover.
Hubby (aka Father of the Monkey) is off checking on a friend who left his wife today.

Tell me how I knew I was talking to the right person ;)
Dupioni? That's the stuff, I believe. I had a blazer a few years back of something similar in a pearly white and gray.
http://www.bridalfabric.com/images/dupioni.htm
I'm loving a pale yellow and gold combo, with narrower stripes of red between.
Yes! That's the fabric! This lucious fabric also comes in a few patterns of stripes and these awsome colors that flash to another color depending on the light. I have been in love with this fabris for a while now and can't wait to work with it. Now, (Sheila) the goal is to actually do the sewing.

That... I can help with. :) I sewed a lot of my own clothes when I was a teen. I was so stylin' with my Betsey Johnson outfits and palazzo pants. I've still kept the BJ patterns because they still look really fashionable!
As for what I'm doing right now? I just finished "not watching" American Idol. Because to watch trash television, well, that would be just *wrong*. :cough:
Do I get any make-up points from the fact that the pup just liberated my prized Lawrence Ferlinghetti "Coney Island of the Mind" book from the bookshelf and customized it for me? I'm going to kill that dog....

No, no , no... A good bathtub book is a paperback, swollen from repeated accidental immersions. One that you are a bit sorry for getting wet, but not too sorry, because you know you will be able to find it again, or you have something even better lined up....

Heading off to work in a few. (Sigh). I am not in the mood to work, which isn't good when you have to be creative. That also means that everyone who is scheduled today will want something new, different, etc. I usually kick into hairdresser mode when I walk through the doors at the shop, but on those days when I am really off, I just tell them "Not today, you don't..." Doesn't happen often, but I feel it's best to be honest about it when it does- lol.

I woke up in the crappiest mood this morning. I was feeling mean, nasty and contrary...:( Thank goodness this doesn't happen very often. I have no idea what caused it, nothing in particular that I can think of. Maybe the garbage truck rumbling down the street and waking me out of a sound sleep. Anyway, I read some Buddha. And now I feel as if it has shifted me into a different mood; peaceful. I'm going to do some ironing and meditate. Yeah, I know that sounds weird. Some people soak in a tub to find bliss, I iron.

dont you HATE those days??!? I know I do... :)Yeah, cheap lunch days aren't the greatest, especially if you're in the mood for something better.
At least two days a week I eat fast food or something similar. Often, what I choose depends on where I want to run errands. There's a nice variety of places to choose from near my morning job, the mall, my evening job, and everywhere in between.
The weather affects it too...it's kind of odd today, warm and cloudy. Hmm. Maybe Quiznos? Definitely not a burger. I'm leaning towards splurging on Boston Market. I looooove Boston Market. I think it's not that much more than Quiznos.
Now I'm checking where the closest thrift shops are to fill my long lunch gap.

I hatehatehate my job. Much evilness. Boss constantly sets me up by giving me one set of instructions, then revealing once completed work has been passed along that "real" instructions differed, thus making me look incompetent. I hatehatehate that. And deciding not to replace the 1.5 FTE staff we're missing, because I'm overtime exempt so she can just assign all that work to me. And then sits on a 4 week jury and doesn't even pass her work on to me at the time -- but now that she's back she's "too busy" to do her work that piled up so she's giving it to me -- only now it's overdue and she tells people it's my fault for not doing it while she was gone. She tells me to shut my door so I can work uninterrupted and get work done faster -- then five minutes later knocks and orders me to open it because people are seeing the closed door and going away, thus not interrupting me. And I need to be available to all people all the time for whatever they need. I'm an overtime-exempt, salaried employee, the only other such employee there (besides her), and I'm the one filling people's printers with paper, taking documents downstairs for them because they're "busy," and making photocopies on demand because apparenly everyone else's arms and legs have been amputated. I used to love it there but now I resent all of them. I get indigestion every Sunday evening because I dread Monday morning. Yesterday I actually felt what I'd have to call a small stirring of homicidal rage. Today was better, but only because the boss was in a meeting most of the day and I didn't have to look at her or feel her presence across the suite. But then as I was leaving she complained again about how busy she is, assigned me work I know full well the dept. chair gave to her because I already had a full plate, then when I told her I couldn't meet the competing deadlines said "I don't care about that" and walked away. Wants me to skip classes that start well after the end of my scheduled work day so that she can attend her kids' mid-afternoon sporting events, because I don't have kids and therefore my after work life is irrelevant and she can require my presence any time that suits her. I spend all day seething at her. I'm so happy to have a three day weekend. Although she wants me to work on something Monday that the chair said she wanted Monday, knowing full well that the chair only said Monday because she forgot about the holiday and won't be in herself on Monday.
Hatehatehate. I have so many applications out. Please oh please interview me and let me not reek of desperation.

The weather has also cleaned up the air, the Kern Canyon has snow on the top, we can also see Tehachapi with snow. Even the Grapevine is nice and clear.

Me too. It's the needle into the top of my hand that bugs me. It just feels wrong.
Ralphie had the flu, too. But strangely enough (knock on wood) I haven't got it yet. His lingered as well.

It was a beautiful day today. I recall reading somewhere that we've had less rain this month than we did last July. Apparently we shipped all our rain to CA. That's what you get for shipping your lousy drivers north!
Today we went to the Aquarium. I haven't been in ages. My friend and co-worker volunteers there and we got to hear her do her spiels on harbor seals, northern fur seals, and sea otters. One of the northern fur seals is 24 and the oldest one in captivity anywhere. She's blind and spends lots of time sort of standing on her head with her flippers sticking out of the water. No one knows why. We got to feel various pelts, too. Sea otter pelt is possibly the most luxurious thing I've ever felt. No wonder they're endangered.
Also rode the waterfront streetcar 'cause it's been a long time since we've done that. Stopped at Krispy Kreme on the way home for no good reason.
Boris tried escaping out the front door when I opened it. Took off down the walk and crossed in front of the garage. Now he's sitting in front of the front door crying because he wants to go have an adventure and mean mommy won't let him. It's really quite annoying. Silly feline. He keeps forgetting that he's a fraidy-cat.

I think the Dr. needs to prescribe you some down time with your King of Swank on some warm, tropical beach somewhere...
I recall vaguely something about the healing powers of suntan oil and Mai Tai's!

Hey NA, I'm sending swanky "get well" vibes your way...
It's been a very up and down weekend up here as well. I spent all day yesterday at "WonderCon" with one of my pals. Bought a few cool Disney items and saw Kevin Smith do a 90 minute Q & A. Heather gave me permission to go geek out as long as I got her Adam Baldwin's autograph (secret crush, anyone?). I wound up chatting with the local Universal Pictures rep who took me back to the press room where Adam was getting ready for a signing session with Joss Whedon and two other Firefly cast members. Long story short, I was allowed back into the house last night with a 8x10 signed to Heather by all three actors and Joss.
Today was a less exhilirating day, unfortunately. Violet, our cat, who at 15 is normally a vivacious and healthy cat, has taken a mysterious turn this week. He's stopped eating and drinking and all of our efforts to coax him into health have been unsuccessful (canned pumpkin, salmon, goopy hairball stuff). Our vet is open tomorrow, but I was too stressed out to wait, so we took him to the emergency vet. They ran a bunch of blood tests, and now he's spending the night there with an IV. The bill is not going to be pretty (the estimate was from $700-$1000 just for the next 24 hours), but hopefully we'll be able to figure out how to treat the little fella.
I guess it's all about extremes.
SYRS,
Jesse

Why are there ducks swimming in my parking lot? I guess because it's flooded.

I'm nursing a wound from a flying windchime - I stepped out my door and WHAP!!! Right in the face. I don't know what house it came from, but I hope I can return it (it's still reasonably intact)

Sleep finally triumphing over wakefullness after a long day of aggrevated waiting, sad memories, and old resentments. The rain never ceasing - or it's ceasing just a teasing. Gratefull that this day is commitment free - except for taxes. So today we'll take on the government in the hopes of many happy returns in the future.
Oh, and coffee - there always must be coffee...

I started off the day with great intentions.....made myself a pot of tea (cool new tea set and woven tray from Target!), read the newspaper (Sandra Dee died :( ), then a chapter of my book (The Vicious Circle by Margaret Case Harriman--written in 1951 while the Algonks were still alive!), then put in a load of laundry, picked out my clothes, had the girls clean their rooms, so we could head out....need to get a quote on a 3X3 mirror framing and I want to um, gobacktoTarget, I mean, um, getalatteatStarbucks, no, I mean run some errands.
I need to run some errands and gotoTargetwherethere'saStarbucksthuskillingtwobird swithonestone.
Alas, I decided first to check my email for auction updates....and got sucked into LoT and MC as a result. I suck.

Argh..Thanks! Everytime I call, I get a different person who has NO idea what's going on...They have to look up my account 4 or 5 times before they can find it...then they ask ME what's being done to it? Hello..I thought you were fixing it...No notes on anything...argh!
Soooo..I had the husband call. He's the best about getting to the point of the problem...his people skills get tested in situations like this...and I feel sorry for the person he spoke to ! BUT...I can pick it up anytime tonight as it's suddenly ready! :D
P.S. I've read the reviews from the first Motley Crue shows...they are kicking A!!! Whooo hooo! March 19th! Still think you should head out to Phoenix and go with me! I'm sure you'll be more fun than hubby...last time we saw The Crue, he didn't speak to me for two days...something about my over zealous attempt to get Nikki Sixx to look at me!! Oops!
