I hate to tell you this, but on a board that is primarily straight women and gay men, you’ll never have balance.

Nope, not even that can make Kraft American Cheese appetizing. Good effort, though.

The Old People are now in Canada and out of cell range. So I called my sister tonight, just looking for some support. I told her about some of the comments I have been hearing about "other fish in the sea" and "you'll find another man." I told her my views on that. She said (again) that I needed to not date or anything until Nickolas was grown and out of the house. She heard this tidbit from Dr Laura, so it MUST be gospel.

I don't know what I have more of a problem with, that she believes everything Dr Laura says or that I am to have no social life for the next 8 years.

Actually, I've seen her up close and she is a natural beauty. The photos are made to look perfect and that looks clinical but in reality, I didn't realize it was her, I just thought it was a beautiful woman.

Ally, I want a Cornell-Depp Samwich.......Or a Homme-Cornell Combo....yep, that would be my samwish. Forget the cheese....

Mousey Girl~ that is honorable of you and in this day and age, well, a good idea. But, it doesn't mean you can't enjoy your life. I love That Guys idea. :D But seriously, what a wonderful gift you have with your son, and what a wonderful mom you are to commit yourself to him this way.

Do women really have Sanchos? This Mexican guy was telling me about how women all have them {I guess in T.J.} and I don't know why the hell he was telling me this. He also told me my husband was probably out with his {my husbands} girlfriend and not Home Depot. I don't think he was hitting on me, I think he was just an ass.

But I did have someone offer to be my Sancho....so, I ask, do women have Sanchos?

My sister has one - or rather has a cat named Sancho. So the neighbors are amused when she calls for him. Her husband, not so much - but probably because he was her Sancho in her first marriage.

It is important for boys to have a strong, positive male role model. But that doesn't mean you need to run out and "find yourself a man", nor does it mean that casual dates need to be introduced if you are never going to see them again. If and/or when you are in a place where you would like to date, go for it. If you aren't, don't worry about it right now. Priorities 1 and 2 are Kid and you.

And Dr. Laura ranks up there with Oprah in terms of cultability.

That is a really funny story. But, did she name the cat Sancho before they were married?

My sister had a can she called Egore. The neighbors nickname was Egore {won't go there} and it was awkward calling the cat in....

I am also getting tired of being asked when I plan to start looking for a new man. Why do I need a man to be happy? My standard response is that I already have a man, he is in training, and he requires my full attention right now.

Bleh. I hate that whole thing about every woman *must* have a man. What- we can take care of ourselves. If someone comes along and you get along, great, but we are complete in ourselves. Well, some of us are. I know some women don't feel complete unless they're paired but I don't understand that.

My post is borne out a story told to me when I was at Cal Poly in the late eighties. Seemed the programmer on an early campus-wide mainframe system buried DEEPLY within code a random silly lockout. At random times, a random terminal would blank out and just display a screen that said "I'm hungry". No matter what they did, they could not figure out how to bypass this lockout. Finally (and I don't recall how they figured this out) it was determined that all they needed to do was "have a cookie" and the terminal would resume right where it was. They never could find the code :)

Editing the company newsletter is proving more complex than I'd anticipated.

Strike that... lemme elaborate by saying that editing a company newsletter that is of a higher quality and style than the previous incarnations of the newsletter is proving more complex than I'd anticipated.

Before it was just several pages of random stuff, each page with its own composition, font, color scheme, layout, etc. I'm trying to make one that stands out as a vast improvement upon that legacy. And it turns out making a decent newsletter with a consistent look but where everything that needs to stand out, does... is taking longer than I'd planned. My cover's pretty b*tchin' though. It was better when it had the monorail on it (hey, if they're going to put a DL monorail photo in a collection of royalty-free images, I'm going to try to use it!), but it still looks pretty cool. I stretched the name out in a lovely bowtie-shaped bit of word art that covers the bottom third+ of the cover (prevously it was just in inch-high letters in the high-middle of the page in a color that barely stood out from the cover photo). Of course, making the cover better was the easy part, because well, I understand transparencies and how to make them work in publisher. (duh)

But yeah, getting everything I need on the inside to look good as well as consistent is taking some actual work.

Wow, today was my most productive day in many moons. I think I'm learning that the project that I had previously spent months positioning myself to focus on is what has been causing my lack of motivation. It's still theoretically the direction of most interest to me, but the specifics are so frustrating to deal with on a day-to-day basis that I will find any way I can to avoid actually doing it, including avoiding actual work all together.

For the time being, there is no work to be done on that project. So now my goal is to build some motivation momentum by working on some other projects that are actually rewarding to work on and hope that momentum carries through once the other project is back on the front burner.

Of course now I'm afarid to ask about "Mousewife"

Hee hee....No worries, I'm just 'mousey'.

Quoting Ally~
Mousewife!! I love the term "Sanchos"!! I've never, ever heard this!! I referred to my ex-boyfriend as Sancho & I have no clue why- it didn't even remotely fit. Unless Sancho is spanish for "Mr. posessive who likes to drink a whole bunch."

I didn't know what one was myself, even after the 'Sublime' song. I just thought it was a name. But, people explained to me what it meant, in describing other people!! And, the person who offered up {and no, the Hubby does not know about this so Shhhhh!!} was saying that all women deserve a Sancho. What to do when the hubby works so many hours...

Oh, I am glad you say this is an 'ex' boyfriend.

Mousey Girl

I first heard the term when one of the guys in the warehouse used it towards one of the girls in the showroom. She has a boyfriend, and one of the guys outside wouldn't leave her alone. When she was walking through and heard it she was livid.

Sometimes the warehouse workers forget that there are other people who know the language. One of our laundry ladies referred to another girl as fat (but in Spanish). She knew what she had just been called.

When I go out there they always try to get me into their conversations and agree with whatever was just said. I just grin and stay out of it.

Do you remember a candy bar that was chocolate on the outside and had soft centers of 4 different flavors? I think they were chocolate, caramel, vanilla and something else. Meh, stupid American Cadbury's just isn't the same. Hershey makes Cadbury in this country. You want the good stuff, you need to go abroad.

When I came back from England I was melting down this ginormous Cadbury "Dairy Milk" bar that someone had given me for Christmas and dipping fruit into it. Well, I ran just a little short on chocolate so I ran to the market and bought an additional Cadbury bar here, and it melted completely different... all paraffin >:(

There is apparently a collegiate cement canoe competition being held on campus this weekend. Today is the day they all show up, posture about, and get their canoe weighed and tested to make sure it floats - and this weekend they race. Or something.

And apparently this also involves electric guitars, although I don't personally see the connection. This being a college campus, the guitar player is required to skip through the first 8 bars of a number of classic rock standards, never actually playing a "song" as such.

MF is quite right. There was a similar product at the Japan pavilion, with fudge, pineapple, banana and strawberry centers. The individual flavors were in discrete squares, not fused together, but it was a similar eating experience. (Easier to share) I haven't seen it for sale there in a while. I thought it was pretty tasty. Overall, Japanese chocolate seems pretty similar to American chocolate to my palate - very sugary. I do like the chocolate coating on Pocky a lot, especially the semi-dark coating on Men's Pocky. (If you find it, give it a try, even if you aren't Men. It's good.)

I used to have a HUGE thing for Toblerone, and just about any Swiss chocolate. That was until I went and had a layover in Switzerland. It was then and there in the airport convenience store that I had a startling revelation. Swiss convenience stores carry far superior chocolate to anything I'd had in the U.S. Everything else I'd had was just stale from shipping, or something... I can't put my finger on it. I remember we bought a bunch on the return flight home - and it still tasted better than what I could buy here... a month after we were back!

Though I still love me some Lindt, Toblerone and Ritter, my chocolate-lovin' heart can't forget.

Oh, I could use some serious chocolate right now. Unfortunately, the only thing that really sounds good at the moment a scotchmallow. Just one. Yum.

Since they don't do the sarsparailla suckers anymore (that I've seen over the last year of looking) there's no reason to go in anymore.

I like Sees, I grew up with Sees, but it's not fresh daily in the stores, has not been forever. I have a Sees a few blocks away on Polk Strasse, I do love their caramels (and toffee, and raspberry cremes) but if I want chocolate nirvana, plain and simple, it's this (http://www.valrhona.com/fr/gpublic/chacchoc/gout/guanaja/guanaja.php3?vlang=A). It probably because it was tied to all our family special occasions when I was a kid. Christmas, birthdays etc.. Objectively, yeah it's probably not that different than some other brands but emotionally there ain't nothing that comes close. A whole box of Milk Molasses Chips all to myself was just about the best part of Christmas for me. Plus I'm sure living out on the bitter east coast where I can't get it plays it's part also.

Though at least it is now officially not the policy* of Cracker Barrel (as of 2002) I am still iffy about patronizing the place since most of the company executives that supported the explicit anti-gay employment policies are still there. The more recent racism allegations don't help.

On the other hand I love any restaurant where you can get a meal with three "side vegetables" and none of sides are actually vegetables (I think I had macaroni & cheese, some cinammon apple thing, and biscuits of some sort).

I worked in a chocolate store for six years. What we found is that when people would hand select a box of chocolates, that is exactly what would happen.
They would select what they liked, or their favorites as a gift, as why would they give something that they thought was horrible?
The exception to that was gift givers that KNEW what the reciepent liked.

So... Last night I decided to pay a visit to GD/CP's stomping grounds and take in the Angel's game. We always park on one of the side streets near the stadium and walk in. It was a fun game, I normally go to about one a year, but I enjoy it. The Angels won. Apparently this caused some sort of kharmic imbalance in the universe, because as we were walking back to my car, a woman came up to me and said "is that your car? someone just broke into it, and my husband is chasing him!" As you can imagine, I was shocked and stunned. This nice couple had also called the police. In a few minutes the police had set up a perimeter, and were walking around with the K-9 unit. I didn't really have anything valuable in the car, luckily the ipod with mousepod's latest episode was locked safely in the trunk.
About 20 minutes later, the police had found someone who ran from them. They took this couple one at a time to id him. Apparently it was the guy, according to them.
On the ground outside of the car, amidst the broken glass of my passenger window were 2 of my parking receipts from Disneyland, which seemed very bizarre, also included in the mess was a "Notice to Appear" for the Costa Mesa PD for someone I didn't know (Did the guy actually drop this?)
The police came back to me and asked my if I was missing anything like a Disneyland button or pin. I remembered that I had one of those Ariel's Grotto buttons from the last time we took my daughter there for her birthday. I mentioned the button, and they both looked at each other and smiled.

Apparently Ariel helped make the bust.

Major mojo for the couple who took the time to get involved, without them and the police, this guy would have gotten away.

I'm bummed about the window, but from what I can tell, nothing valuable was taken, and at least I got to sleep in a nice warm bed last night. I don't think I can say the same for him.

Update: The guy plead guilty and was sentenced to 2 years. Apparently the authorities don't look kindly on committing auto burglary when you are already on probation.

It's sad that this guy is throwing away 2 years of his life to get some junk out of my car.

I got home to find my father-in-law helping David to move out some of his crap. Luckily I was able to talk to him alone for a minute. He was doing it to help me reclaim my garage and back yard. He even made a few snarky remarks about taking everything over to Dawn's house. I was highly amused, David not so amused.

I now have 1/3 of my garage available, tomorrow I can start cleaning it out and moving things around. I still can't park in there because of the boat, but it is a step. My patio needs a good pressure washing, but it is no longer a car port!!

Our neighbors are moving!

This is good news on at least a couple fronts, both relating to their dogs.

They have two dogs. One of them is a large dog (looks like a dalmation/dane mix to me). She spends almost her entire day either inside or in the tiny (~20ftx8ft) back patio that our condos have. This is a trapped, frustrated dog. So I don't blame her for barking. But that doesn't make it any less of a nuisance. She barks at everything. She barks at anyone who walks by the back, she barks at us every time we enter or leave. She even barks at us while we're in our own kitchen.

Thankfully, she's brought inside at night, so that doesn't tend to be an issue. But CP, who takes her bike out the gate and parks in the carport right by their yard, gets "assaulted" every single morning. It grows wearisome.

She had a conversation with them recently, which wasn't particularly encouraging. After first making, "She just needs o get to know you," excuses, they eventually said, "She used to be better when my mom would come by and walk her more often, but she doesn't any more." When CP suggested that they might look into training, the response was, "Oh, you can't train for barking, can you?"

I feel very sorry for these dogs, it's no life to be stuck in that little cement box. But we were coming very close to contacting the association and finding out what our options might be.

So I was very happy to get an email from CP saying that our neighbor came into the library today and told her they'd be putting the condo on the market within the month. Their main motivation being to find somewhere with a yard for the dogs.

I'm happy the nuisance will be gone (presuming a new one doesn't move in *crosses fingers*). And I'm really happy the dogs will hopefully be much much happier in their new home.

I am a bit beyond pissy at this point. While I am happy that I can slowly start repairing my abused patio, it would have been nice if they had fixed the sprinkler they ran over, or at least told me about it. I now have a mess of stinky, oily water covering 1/3 of my patio. I lack the skills (or at least the knowledge) to repair it.

Add this to the horrific sunburn on Nick's back and I am one pissed puppy. According to Boy, when he asked Dawn for sunblock she said she threw it all away. I am now taking pictures of his back, my yard and the disgusting, moldy mess David left in the back bathroom.

blueerica
06-16-2007, 10:37 PM
Ran over sprinklers? Messed up patios? Huh? I need to read back, or just accept this is something I miss.

And seriously - he asked for sunblock and her only irresponsible answer is that she threw it all away? What were they doing? If they had anything outdoors planned and sunblock wasn't... OK, I'm just irritated. But I think I'm just in that kind of mood.

I was downstairs with grandma earlier and she was watching some Lifetime movie. The lead actress was stupid. I know she made her decisions because of love and all, but I couldn't help but be irritated by her lack of concern for everyone but herself. Though I'm sure most Lifetime viewers could "understand" why she did it (took her amnesiac husband home), I could see through that thin shell... Though it all ended well, as are Lifetime flicks wont to do, her children suffered mental abuse and were put in regular danger. It was based on a true story, which made me feel even worse - she didn't listen to doctors and didn't read up on what memory loss does to a person... selfish!

So it's probably my mood. But in general, I hate such blatant irresponsibility.

HMPF!

I have lived in such situations and had to wonder- does anyone else have their sence of hearing? Why is it that we are the only one's annoyed by insesant barking?

Sorry to hear about the frustrations MG! Good luck with everything! Get some green tea, make a strong batch and mix it with aloe juice. Use that on Nicks back. It will sooth it, and allow it to heal faster. And keep sunscreen that he can take with him next time. Sheesh! Threw it all out.....

I have some aloe gel with lanocaine and menthol, it has helped him enough to sleep. I will put the sunblock on him before he leaves. I can't afford to supply her multiple spawn with sunblock. I also told him to keep his tshirt on, even with the sunblock. I already chewed David out for the sunburn, but that was before I knew about the damage in the back yard.

So... Daivd didn't come for Nick until after 10. He said he would be here between 8 and 9. It seems they have a problem with their pool. Someone has gouged holes in it. I guess Dawn was trying to blame Nick because the first thing David did was look at his toes. Nick can't have long toe or finger nails because of Tai Kwon Do. They have regular nail checks (which he would know if he ever watched).

He had the whole group with him when he pulled up. I asked him about the broken sprinkler. I could sense her seething as he insisted on fixing it while they waited in the hot car. LOL! I know she was furious!

Oh well, small things like that keep me amused.

Add this to the horrific sunburn on Nick's back and I am one pissed puppy. According to Boy, when he asked Dawn for sunblock she said she threw it all away.

Kids outdoors without sunblock???? Not smart. I'm sorry this is difficult. Hopefully the Boy will heal quickly and this will fade into the past.

So she thinks toenails gouged the *pool*??? I thought the liners were harder than that.

Congrats on getting your sprinkler fixed!! :)

I had to work today, too, and on father's day. Software release tomorrow. Blah.

But, when I got home, my family had purchased for father's day for me...a Wii! How fun! They had been looking for one for a month and finally got one today while I was working. It is so cool. We only created a family of Miis and played a few things on the sports game, but it is way cool and I could become incredibly addicted to this thing.

I don't know how common they are in the stores yet, but when we were at CostCo yesterday they had a pallet of them them. So of course we got one.

We found it fun, but I don't know that we found it addictive so hopefully it'll get used. If anybody has The Legend of Zelda does it actually get interesting at some point? I played for about 30 minutes last night and quite literally fell asleep while doing so I was so bored.

We haven't seen them anywhere here in Phoenix. My wife had been calling various retail outlets for the last two weeks trying to find one. They are quite scarce in Phoenix retail stores.

I have tried anything like The Legend of Zelda - we've only played Wii sports. Having a lot of fun with it. We also piddled around with Wii play to get the hang of how to use the controller.

One good thing is our kids have had a Gamecube for several years and we have many games, which are all Wii compatable.
