I'm at the airport, at the gate, an hour and a half before BOarding...

Alex wanted to be sure I'd make my flight ;)

BTW... this airport is starting to look like a sad mall in a mid-sized city in the 80's. No wonder we're such a joke. Although I was delighted to catch a glimpse of some of the original (and probably doomed) 60's modern decor left. There was a b blue sideways diamond backing a drinking fountain and surrounded by dark wood veneer paneling. I'd take a picture, but... (airport)

Poor wolfette. Hopefully the next one will do better. How long *does* a hamster live, anyway?

I love that the airline is having some fun! Mostly they're boring, stodgy, and stressed. Safe flight, goonie!

School started for us yesterday. I'm online cuz I didn't want to compete for a class this that it looks like not only will I be unable to add, but will likely drop. I have five classes if I get into the Monday night sign language one which will be too much. I'm ok with school starting, though I don't feel like I had much of a break. I'm still somehow not caught back up to myself, haven't found a steady space. Normally I do find the steadiness, especially on a break. This one was hectic and chaotic, though, always on the run.

Hopefully this means life will settle into a regular schedule though. Wish me luck!

I was once stuck on a plane on the taxi-way for over an hour (some doofus hoocked up the push-back truck wrong and it busted the front landing gear, so they had to get if fixed before we could get moving again). I remember that one of the things they did to entertain us was ad-hoc gambling. "Okay, put your name on a dollar bill, put it in this jar. If we pull your bill, you win the money!" Yeehaw.

I believe that was the flight where Robin Williams was on the plane, but that may have been a different flight on that trip.

I don't know anything about hamsters (other than they are mean), but a rat's average life span is 18 months to 2 years. Squiggle will be 3 April 1st, but I don't think she is going to make it. This morning her hair was standing up, which is a sign that her ned is near. The other girls seem to be taking turns sleeping with her, keeping her warm. She is the last of her litter (her last sister died January 2nd), and she has had a good life. She needs to let go already.

Pug by Ned Riley (To the tune of "Lump" by the Presidents of the United States of America)

Pug sat alone in a doggie park
He had breathing problems, so he couldn't bark
Other dogs laughed at his pushed-in nose
His mom had one, so that's how the story goes

He's pug, he's pug
What's with his head?
He's pug, he's pug, he's pug
Is he inbred?

Pug met his owner he had missed
He went up to him and gave him a sloppy kiss
Small thing so sad cos of his face
It could be used for a rocket-landing base

He's pug, he's pug
His head's so square
He's pug, he's pug, he's pug
Got shorty hair

Arfarfarf, arf, arf-arf-arf
Arfarfarf, arf, arf-arf-arf
Arfarfarf, arf, arf-arf-arf
Arfoink!

Pug was lonely and needed a hug
He got one from the owner that he really loved
He spent each night between his sheets
But don't go mistaking it for bestiality

He's pug, he's pug
He's got no snoot
He's pug, he's pug, he's pug
But he's so cute

Does this pug have a squashed head?
I think so
Is this pug nasal-dead?
I think so
Should this pug sleep in my bed?
I think so
And that's all I gotta say about that
:D

But try to understand that your mom likely is as ashamed of/frustrated with herself as you are.

It's hard to articulate, but Snowflake is right that there's an element of fear. I know better, she knew better, my dad knew better...but something not quite definable (at least not by me...else I wouldn't have this issue, would I?) just makes not dealing with it a more comfortable route. More than "more comfortable". The thought of dealing with it can be almost paralyzing. DP: I don't know what the time frame is for the party, but sometimes having something "fun" to share can be helpful - they don't feel like they're being a burden, and you don't have to spend as much time trying to figure out what to talk about that's cheerful and non-cancer-related.

So trust your instincts. We'll be strong for you so you can be strong for them.

My dad called. She couldn't talk to me just then, because they were putting a tube down her throat to help relieve pressure until they can at least clear everything out and do the scoping.

According to the doctor, once they do the scoping, she can come home until they have the biopsy results on Monday. So, she told my father that she wants to come here for the weekend to have fun and go to DL on Sunday. I wish IASW weren't closed. It's her favorite.

I told him to keep talking to her about the trip in May and all the fun we'll have. I think it will help keep her in a fighting mood, instead of refusing further treatment. Give her something to look forward to, ya know? She's been so excited about it - she's been buying new clothes, making plans on everything to see...

My entire life, I've never really heard my dad cry, until now.

One minute I'm pissed, then I'm crying the next. I thought we were done with the whole mess and had finally overcome it. We're close - I talk to her everyday.

Thanks for letting me just talk it out. I just don't even know what to really think right now.

heh- I did that once/ I had a fireplace in my apartment. I took all, and I mean ALL- the dead branches off our dead Christmas tree and stuffed them in the hearth- and lit it.

Trouble is- the flue was closed. It caught like crazy and flames started licking up the wall. I had a shelf above the fireplace acting as a mantle- I grabbed all the stuff off it and tore the shelf from the wall- THEN I grabbed the handle for the flue- and of course burned myself in the process.

Billows of black smoke coming from my apartment- and no one called the fire dept.

Luckily there were so many layers of paint on the wall I was able to scrub off the black soot-

I was such a dork!

Tori is counting the days until she turns 13 and can join the site. I'm thinking she'll get bored real quick, as Kingdom Hearts and Manga aren't real big topics around here. It's just the novelty of being old enough to actually post.

Btw, her's a sick girl tonight. She has had the same awful cold we've had, but she got hit worse. She went to the doc today- they ruled out strep but gave her codeine cough syrup and told us to bring her back if she's not better in a few days. Tonight, she had a coughing fit that was so bad she couldn't breathe- she was panicked and I was terrified. I finally got her to calm down so she could little bits of air in her lungs, but then her gag reflex kicked in and she started getting sick. Not good- I was scared to death that she'd aspirate, so I grabbed her and bent her over the sink until she got all that crap out of her airway. Then I ran cold water over her wrists until she calmed down enough to start breathing relatively normally. Scared the total crap out of her and me both. I had whooping cough as a kid- a very bad case- and this episode reminded me of the ones I'd had.

Now, she's doped up on codeine, got Vicks vapor rub on her chest and a heating pad over that, and propped up on pillows. Poor kid.:(

Did I move to Kansas sometime in the last 2 hours?Kansas is a weird place. When Ken and I drove through there almost 4 years ago, we marveled at the amount of roadside porn shops, adjacent to convenience stores and rest stops, out in the middle of nowhere. I really tried to not use the restrooms through that stretch.

Btw, her's a sick girl tonight. Try asking the doc for Tessalon Pearls if the coughing gets out of control. Those things totally stop the coughing, better than any of the syrups.

So, I'm a bit more calm now. Ken distracted me with some chess and fresh chocolate chip cookies. My mom's resting up at the hospital overnight, and they'll run some final tests in the morning. She's asked that I continue with the party plans, in hope that she'll make it. I'm wondering if she's just telling me that, because she doesn't want me to be upset. She's always said that it's the parents' job to worry, and not the other way around. Yeah, ok. Here's hoping it's just scar tissue that can be easily removed.

I don't handle stuff like this very well, probably because I never had a close friend or family member get critically ill or die up until 6 years ago. So, I never had to learn to cope with it. (Three of my grandparents were gone before I was born.) If I had learned the process as a kid, it'd probably be a bit easier now. Who knows.

Ok, now I'm babbling.

It's been years since I've gone cross country like that, so I've forgotten. I did have a good laugh in some area of San Bernardino that it seemed like porn shops were on as many street corners as gas stations....

You're not babbling, DP. It makes sense understanding that it's only been a recent experience for you. It takes a long time to learn, and fortunately/unfortunately, I've had a lot of experience with it. Who knows if it makes anything any easier. Maybe your mom wants you to go on with the party, because if it's going on still, it's something to motivate her. My grandma was in the hospital a couple of years ago, and it was going to be my cousin's 16th birthday party. The two of them are very, very close, perhaps closer than she is with her own mother, and this was all on the heels of very recently losing our grandfather on that side, so my cousin was erring toward just spending time with grandma and, you know, being distressed. Grandma insisted that the party should go on, and she explained that she wanted something to look forward to.

I don't know if that's your mom's case, but it might be.

In the meanwhile, I'll keep sending healing thoughts her way, and calming thoughts to you. :)

Soooo....

I am off at a press check and there is a problem on the press. Fixable, but I am in the middle of a 45 minute wait (after a previous 45 minute delay). Since it takes a half hour to drive back to the office (one way), I got time on my hands.

Already checked and responded to all my email (surprisingly light this morning). We are not set up for telecommuting, so other than answering a few questions over the phone, I got nothing.

And I am bored.

Mom & Dad have figured out my love of the 'nip. I turn into a playful love bug, which is great! I don't like loud and scary stuff, but they helped me figure out that I like lights and lasers, which is pretty awesome!

Oh, and thanks for the propz on the name, guyz! My dad came up with that one, and mom got the giggles over it for a few minutes. So it's, like, my official name now.

Normally, Samwise is pretty mellow for a young cat but lately he's been 'busy' at night. That means racing around the house, harassing Boris and Haggis, and when I put him in Tori's room and shut the door he's trying to climb the blinds, open the closet, knocking everything off her dresser and pulling down posters. Wild child.

well now...I've seen 'snow'.....but anywhere Ive seen it, its usally grey or some other 'non-snow' color, half melted, small spot bits of white or falling off buildings in the middle of NYC. that or so far in the distance that it might as well be imagination.

looks kind of pretty, but I can only imagine the frozen 773H it is to live in.

WB - why couldn't you keep the white stuff to yourself? Now we have this sort of in-between amount of snow - where I feel like a big wimp if I consider staying home from class tonight, but enough that I'm really concerned about the drive home at 10pm if I do go to class - since it's all slushy and suppose to freeze over AND snow more between now and 10.

I really don't want to risk wrecking the car, but I'm worried about missing the class, too. Although it is UCC sales and that's one of the last classes I took - so I still remember some of it.

I'd have some great pics, but around the complex there are too many cars and not enough scenery.

Took a spur of the moment trip to Wyoming yesterday, and neglected to bring my camera, since I thought we were just going to the movies. Now that was some pretty snow mixed in with mountains, cliffs, rivers. It was breathtaking and for a moment, I didn't mind the cold.

Oh wait, how much did you house cost? Doh!

Ten years ago we bought a 4,000 square foot newer home, with 3 baths, five bedrooms and a huge yard for $145,000. It's nearly doubled in value, even with the housing crash. Granted, the median hourly wage here is slightly above minimum, but I feel loads better about it when I see what you all pay for real estate down there.:D

Pru- Bobbi was impressed that Seattle hadn't succumbed to the usual post-snow chaos when she was there. Of course, it was the weekend. She also said the trip over the Pass was grueling- took over three hours. When she got home she discovered that nearly all the deciduous trees and shrubs in her yard were obliterated by the heavy snow. It tried to take down our lilacs, but I went out and shook all the snow off the branches before they snapped.

Brigitte- how much did you all get?

Alex- the thought of you living here made me crack up. There is no culture in Spokane, silly!

And finally, in August it averages 100 degrees up here as well, so I may be looking back at these pictures with a bit of longing. I doubt it, but it could happen.

True, but I like long drives to get where I'm going.

Trust me, if the serious opportunity arose to move to Spokane (or almost anywhere else) I'd do it it without hesitation. 10 years is too long to live in one place and about 5 years longer than I ever planned on.

Maybe when the attention (yes, negative attention is still attention) goes away she'll go get some help.1) Sadly, there is still a strong demand (by the paying public) to see more of the ongoing train wreck, and 2) Ms. Spears brings it on herself. If you don't want to be captured doing stupid things, then stop doing stupid things. If you don't want to be in the public eye so much, stop putting yourself in the public eye so much.

Yes, it is a bit of a chicken/egg situation, but she certainly isn't doing her part to help the situation.

That was his own stupidity. He went and offered services he wasn't qualified to offer (in this state). Should the hospital have let him in? That's questionable. But he did what he did on his own (he could have said no to her family, if they did indeed ask him to help).
